I hate to break it to you weenies, but nobody gives a **** about bike racing

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm watching the BBC World News this AM - and they go through the sports. Cricket, Soccer, American Hockey (for the UK, go figure) - not a WORD about Paris-Nice. Floyd Landis is primed to WIN this major Euro Classic, and not a snippet or briefest mention of it in the NY Times, my local paper, USA Today - or the BBC World News.

And this is the sport that has the 'rabid following' in Europe. Right. Maybe in Basque country. Get serious. Nobody cares except us. If they did the domestiques in the Tour de France would make $500K annually (not $75K) like their equivalents in the NFL or MLB....

But WE care : ). Of course we're all idiots. Speaking of idiocity I have to go out and ride my road bike today in the lovely 55º temps - and the 40mph winds. I need another sport. Preferably an indoor sport.

Oh aye, things were different when I were a lad. Used to ride 50 mile, each way, to and from school, uphill both ways. Didn' have tires, rode on rims, through 2 feet of snow.....

It is kind of sad when you have to go to floydlandis.com to get any news of the race.

Cheers.

Just make sure to ride with the wind and then have your wife meet you and take you for coffee or lunch. You'll feel good doing 25-30 miles in under and hour.

You clearly don't ride in farm country. Remember the tornado sequence in 'Wizard of Oz'? Riding around here with 20-40mph winds is a cross between that and 'Rat Patrol' : ).

who cares what the mainstream media has to say or not say about cycling. most news organizations are sitting around trying to figure out what to do about google and the internet and where they fit in. cycling has plenty of sport specific coverage and all you need to do is go to velonews or one of the many cycling publications for info. Letting the mainstrem media idiots factor into how you feel about a sport you love is lunacy. Go out and ride 40 mile per hour gusts are only a trip when they are cross winds, I found that out the other day going over a tall bridge with 45 mph gusts.

After reading 'Lance's War' my view of Euro Pro cycling has changed forever. Toughest sport on the planet, and certainly one of the most bizarre. Europeans are friggin nuts. Which explains a lot about America since half this country CAME from there. I'm not sure if you had to be crazier than your average European to emigrate to the US or more sane. Flip a coin bike weenies.

I'm telling you, we can hate the French all we want. We're JUST like them. Only fatter.

Funny the dallas papers at least carried the results.

55 with 40mph winds? sounds like your average Texas spring day.

You had a bike! We didn't have bikes when I was a kid. I used to ride to school - 120 miles with 80 mph headwinds (yes, both ways) - pedaling a toaster. We had it tough.

Seriously, you dont want cycling to become a major sport. I'm a big MLB fan, and every year when the World Series pops around I have half my coworkers talking out of thier ass about baseball, and I'm constantly having to explain things to people who think Derek Jeter is the best player in the world because he does VISA commercials.

Landis just nedd to get that "Eye of the Tiger" look, the killer instinct which characterized Lance, if he's to win a "Tour de France"

You can forget about him this year--looks like he's peaking too early. There's no way he can hold or rebuild to peak by July.

I'm too handsome for synchronized swimming. It would detract from the other competitors. Cycling is perfect for me. It makes me look dorky like all of YOU.
