Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I had the same problem, of course it was after a few rides. I had to call Garmin and get it swapped out.

Did they swap the sensor or the GPS?

I'm having the same issue, and it's already been warrantied for the barometer.

I noticed mine wouldn't "connect" to the GSC10 until I spun the crank around a few times (triggering the sensors). Other than that, things work just fine.

Good Luck,

Does it have a speed sensor like a normal bike computer? What does it need it for? I figured it would get your speed like every other gps unit does.

If GPS reception drops off or you are indoors on a trainer (0mph and 0 distance per GPS), the sensor keeps up with your speed and distance (calculated from Time, RPM, and tire size).

Question................just ordered my 305. I assume it is like a GPS for your car which does not need a spoke magnet to work the basic features like speed, distance, and you get the idea! Also, I ordered mine with the HRM. Any feedback would be great as to how this unit sets up. I assume install to bike supplied mount, turn on, give it a few to read satellites and then whamo..............you have your speed and all since it runs off those things circling the earth.............Is this correct?

Also..................hooking into your PC............does it show data as far as your progress and nice little charts?

pretty much.

or you can be like me and put it on the dash of your car while wearing the hr strap on the ride home when you get it.

but yes, then mount on the bike and go.

the cadence/speed sensor just gives backup speed if you lose satellites/ride indoors.

Yea it is pretty damn sweet. The hardest part for me now is figuring out the software. I am only tapping about 1% of it's power. I know once I get it all figured out I can actually build a training routine etc and use it the way it is designed. Right now it is just fun to look at "Hey look my HR spikes going uphill, I really needed a $350 device to tell me that"

I'm sorry to hear people are having problems with their sp/cad sensors.

So far I've had the opposite experience with my Edge. I'm impressed with how far away the sensor can be from the magnet and still be picked up. My Polar sensors only worked if they were 1-2mm from the magnet (practically touching). The Edge sensors can be three times the distance the Polar sensors and have no problem.

Hope you get the problem fixed.

Sorry I just noticed this thread...

Most of the speed/cadence sensors shipped with the battery installed backwards! I have no idea if they did it on purpose (to save battery while at the store), but they sure didn't mention it anywhere. Anyway, just remove the battery, rotate it, and I'll bet it works fine.

Also, as an FYI, it's particularly cool that the combo speed/cadence sensor is on the BACK wheel for those of us who ride on an indoor trainer

Never read anywhere about the HRM strap as having a replacable battery. Anyone know about that particular feature?

205/305 manual, page 79-80.

One good thing they did right was to make the HRM & CAD unit with the same battery size.

I found replacement batterys at STAPLES under medical batteries.

Good Luck,

we got ours in the second batch and there was a sticker on the cadence/speed sensor saying to turn it over! also.. our zip ties weren't tied like in the first batch!

I just got mine from REI yesterday and used it for the first time today. My battery was in the speed/cadence backwards but no sticker that I noticed.

First ride out with and and then download to computer - I love this thing!

I love mine. I had a little trouble getting the unit to pick up the cadence sensor. Finally, I went back to the instructions and made sure that I followed the exact sequence in dialing it in. I had to reset the cadence/speed sensors a couple of times, but when it started working, watch out. This is a great piece of eqipment. I am not getting everything out of it, but it's all there. What map programs do most people use?

I got my 305 Edge HR/CAD bundle the other day. Installed easy and works great. I did a quickie 4 min ride around the block to check things out. Uploaded the data to the computer and it works nicely.

However, when i turned off the Edge unit and disconnected it from the computer, i can no longer turn it back on! No matter what i do, hold in the power button for a long time, or try pushing the ON button quickly, it never turns itself on any longer. When i charge it, it no longer displays as "charging" or "complete". Its a blank screen with nothing. Did i do something to break it already?

Unfortunatly its saturday and i cannot call garmin untill monday.. arg! im frustrated.

I disconnect then turn off........however, have not read anything that says you can't do it your way. That sounds like the unit may need to be looked at. Really unusual for that to happen. I would definitely call them during their working hours. Have you tried MotionBased forums to see if anyone else has had that problem?
