First ride and I get dropped by a headwind

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

First ride and I get dropped by a headwind

New England finally made it into the sixties today. I unhooked my Roubaix from my indoor trainer and went out on the road. After 20 miles up and down hills battling headwinds I was actually brought to a stop by a steady strong headwind. Here I was standing up trying to hammer through a headwind and it was winning. If I wasnt so out of breath and my legs so dead I would of LMAO...

Overall good day...26 miles avg 16 MPH...tomorrow is to be 60 with wind and rain...I can't wait.

That's when you turn around...grab the tailwind for 50 miles, be proud of your average 35 mph and that you 'felt great and had strong legs'...then call someone to pick you up.

Same here. West of Boston. Headwinds most of the way. Got blasted head-on about 3/4 the way up the toughest hill. Can't wait to get out again.

For sure, I did a CRW 28miler and my group got split to pieces. A few riders decided they wanted to bridge the gap to the next group so off they went. I had just finished my turn so I grabbed a wheel, but I think the guy was spent. I was close to pulling everyone back, but the wind was just nasty. Whenever I had some good momentum, a nice gust would blow me down to nothing.

Oh, well...great ride for mid-march, but I'm looking to crank up the mileage from here on out. I average 17.5 over the 28 despite the wind so not too bad.

ps...you don't admit it here...you start a thread saying that you averaged 35 mph over 50 miles and you're now in the top 1000 in your neck of the world.

+1.

Great riding this weekend, it was nice to get out, enjoy the weather, and realize that I still suck. Time to hit the trainer so I can suck less when weather gets nice again

Saturday rain here. Sunday drizzle but squeezed in a quick 10 miles.
