Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Question for you Garmin Edge 305 owners with HR monitor

how does the heart rate monitor functions compare with the high end Polar models? Can you set zones and such? Does it track the time in how many zones? tracks your max HR for that ride etc?

Please let me know

Thank you

My Polar S725 has more HR features than the Edge....

Edge Does the following:
-Heart Rate
-Average HR
-Lap HR
-HR Zones 1 - 5

The one feature I like about the Edge that I think is better, is the Interval Workouts..

Distance:
Rest Time:
Repetitions:

I think both types of devices have their "features".... it depends on what aspect is the most important...

I don't know how it compares to the Polar models because this is the first heart rate monitor i've owned. Yes you can set zones and yes it keeps track of the time you are in each zone as well as the distance traveled in each zone. It tracks max hr, % max heart rate, average heart rate. I mean if you can think of it, this probably does it. The first time I plugged it into the computer after the ride I spent over an hour on the data from a 17 mile ride and I still don't feel like I know all of the possibilities this things has to offer. It is excellent!

I haven't used mine on a ride yet, but I already know that I like the chest strap more than the polar that I have... (though it was one of the cheaper models)

There is a stretch of road that my Polar cs200 would always flip out on due to interference from power lines. My Edge has been rock solid through the same stretch of road.

No complaints from my Edge so far.

I just have the basic Polar and the Edge is much better than the basic Polar HRM. The edge does have 5 zones that it tracks and will alert you if you set it up to do so. I have been nothing but amazed with the Edge 305.
