Are Clif Bars Getting Smaller?

Has anyone else noticed that Clif Bars are smaller than they were, say, a year ago?

I Think your right.

timmhaan 03-16-06 11:14 AM

really?! i hope not. there should be a customer service number on it. perhaps one of us should call and ask.

kingsfan4life 03-16-06 11:58 AM

Are they the same price?

worker4youth 03-16-06 12:01 PM

What about the amount of calories? Has it stayed constant? I suppose this is the most reliable measure.

Just like the Hersey Bar. They have a price-point they have to match so they just shrink the bar to stay profitable. Start comparing different bars on a cents per calorie basis and let us know what to switch to please.

IMO the best deal out there is the Powerbar Harvest from my local grocery store. Just about every other maybe every 3rd month all Powerbar products seem to go on sale buy one get one free making the harvest pars like $0.62 each...I haven't been able to beat that.

By law they're have to change the nutritional info on the back if it was infact smaller.

It is very possible that they are the same amount of food packed into a smaller area though. Which would mean they are more dense than they used to be....which is hard to believe because I've always found them to be incredibly dense.

yeah, especailly when they're cold. it's like trying to eat the side of a building.

I haven't noticed and I eat a lot of these.

la_raza 03-16-06 12:58 PM

No, your mouth and hands are just getting bigger.

thewalrus 03-16-06 01:17 PM

Do they weigh the same? I thought standard Clif Bars were 68 grams...

Maybe weightweenies should start a nutrition bar section. Lots of nutty europeans with scales accurate to 0.10 grams there. :D

I have not noticed them getting smaller however at a ride I did last fall they had mini cliff bars at the rest stops that I thought were pretty cool. Nice in the back of the jersey, easy to eat quick.

What weight are they at now? I have some old ones lying around as I don't care for them anymore and can check and see what they were (they must be at least a year old).

And if any of those "nutty Europeans" are unavailable, just ask your friendly neighborhood drug dealer! He's probably really familiar with converting from grams to ounces and vice versa. ;)

No, dude; you're getting fatter! Eat less, ride more...

(Of course, the way those things taste only a real oinker would complain that they are small!)

;)

Phatman 03-16-06 09:24 PM

I saw a post at the WW forum from a guy who was weighing titanium bolts for his rear derailleur on a scale accurate to 1/100th of a gram. it appeared to be some sort of pharmacy scale with official-looking german language government certification stickers on it.

I really love the Harvest bars now. I get them for 2/$1 at the local Big Lots store.

Propofol 03-16-06 10:45 PM

They're not getting smaller. They're getting more aerodynamic.
