Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What LA's mom told me over lunch today+Bike porn

So I introduced Linda Armstrong-Kelly at a luncheon today here in Milwaukee.

First off let me say what a wonderful lady she is. I felt very at ease talking with her during the lunch, and had every chance to do that since we sat together....it's a perk when you emcee an event!

She says Lance is vacationing in the Bahamas now with his kids. He's not riding very much, but he is loving it. She says it has been rather strange for him being this free at this time of year, something that hasn't happened in a long, long time. Other than that he has been busy with the LAF and charity work.

And here's some bike porn from the event....a Lance autographed model I took a quick pix of for you....

Can I borrow it and ride it wearing a yellow jersey, with hairy legs? Lance and I use the same size bike...

Wow! What an honor. From what I've read and seen on TV, she seems like a really nice lady, just as you confirmed.

Was the bike being auctioned or was it just for display?

Bike was display only. They were holding a raffle for another one....a hybrid Trek model.

We talked about Plano, Texas where she lives....about eating healthy....about how Lance scolds her because she has to remember to eat enough....about Carmichael....and about Lance's time at the Tour of California recently.

Damn, for some reason I thought just maybe he may still come back. I would love to see him go back to his roots and ride the 1 day classics again.

Cool, does Lance know you are putting the moves on his Mom? I guess he will as soon as he checks the forum tonight...

Nice bike!

So Lance could end up as Hip's step-son?

[ BTW why is there no bartape on the bike?]

Maybe it is the clear bar tape that I have heard people talk about. Its made so people can show off their carbon bars

No. You can't because R600DuraAce would track you down and drop you.

Used to see her at the Richardson Bike Mart quite often, but
haven't in a while. I'm told that she's moved up near Oklahoma
(or to Oklahoma), more land etc.

Thanks for sharing Hip.

You really should have turned that bike around so the drive side was facing the camera before taking that photo. I'm sure she would have helped after telling her you wanted to shoot some porn.
