Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think 2-3 hours is a good time estimate. I'll wait around till about 11ish to see who else wants to go. I think Cuda and Cahill were interested. Kevin may have bailed already for the 8:00 am ride.

Can we put you in charge of organizing this ride?

Where do I park and how do I get to our starting point? Want to get everyone's cellphone numbers?

I'll go. The starting point looks to be in the middle of a busy intersection. Is there a landmark where the meeting place will be?

That link I gave was just the general route. I'm not familiar enough with Mckinney to know where to park. We could start from here in Allen...park at Story Elementary and ride from there. I know the route all the way to Mckinney and beyond. Bring some fewd and electrolytes, I bonked on my first try up there but that was on our tandem at about 18+. We can cut the trip at any point and just double back and go at anyones pace.

Still waiting on Cuda and Cahill...and maybe Kevin...

Sweet. Not too familiar with the greater Dallas area, where is the school?

11:00 works for me. I got up this morning to go on the PBA ride but it was bit chilly so I went back to sleep. I am eating breakfast right now and can be ready in the next 30 minutes or so. Where is the meeting spot?

::EDIT:: Kevin has showed. Kevin, if you have a better meeting spot in Mckinney please chime in, I'm not too sure of the area up there. I'm still waiting on Cuda and Cahill....11:00 may be too soon for everyone to get here. I've no clue where some of these guys are coming from.

I'm packing my stuff and will be there at 11:00. I will check the board while I am getting ready to see if the plan changes.

Cahill -- If you are watching the boards and would like to go, you can ride with me. I have a two bike rack. Call me if interested.

How about 12? I'm driving from Uptown/Downtown. Can you message me your cellphone number in case I get lost? I suck at navigation.

Leaving now, see you guys there. Just a warning, don't ride too fast because some of you are definitely more hardcore than me! I'm also on call at work. While I don't expect any call during the time, if there is I'll have to pull over and take the call. You guys can just keep going. I'll catch up or just head home. In short, feel free to abandon me if I pull over for a call.

Ya...I was down trolling the school looking for Kevin...didn't want you waiting around thinking this went down the 5hitter. I live just up the street and am trying to keep track of this and troll the school at the same time. I'll shift to 12.

We're lucky if we can get this ride to go down on any day. Looks like it will be me, Kevin and comatose. No word from Cuda.

Me, Doggus and Comatose had a great ride today. We put in 48 miles. The route looks like a keeper. Hopefully we will have more people next time.

LOL!!! You have to remember that while you were putting in 62 miles yesterday, I was sitting at home resting. Let's do the same route in the next week or so and you will think differently about it.

And there's more mileage to be had if you want it. That route can go all the way to Van Alstyne and then Howe. The road doesn't change. Theres also a way to get on the access and continue on to Sherman but I've never gone past Howe. To Sherman and back I'm thinking would be an imperial century or very close.

Earlier is better on that route though...if we could roll out at 8:00 am the traffic through Mckinney wouldn't be near as bad.

Sorry I missed you all, school has me burried for a few more weeks, and Tuesday I move to Richardson. I managed to get up to Kevin's neck of the woods for a short ride with Cahill and his new Specialized by mid-afternoon. If ya'll are planning on doing the same route next week at around 8 I'll likely be game. What speeds were ya'll rolling at?

I'll try hard not to have anything unexpected pop up for next weekend. I'd love to get out of Dallas and ride on some actual backroads instead of constantly looking over my shoulder. Until then...!

I remember when I was in sk00l - no time for nuthin. I didn't do jack squat but homework and study. My official average was right at 15.9 mph but my computer conked out twice for a total of 3/4 mile.
