Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Urgent....Have 50 minutes to decide.

For someone who is not a wrench, how difficult would it be to:

Remove an FSA Gossamer and install an FSA Gossamer compact?

My order came in at the shop but they can't do the install til Tuesday and I would like to have it tomorrow morning for this weekends rides.

Do it myself or wait for the pros?

Thanks!

~Mike

If you have the tools, and know how to adjust your front derailleur, you should be ok. Judging by your post, I'm figuring you're batting 0-2 in the above categories.

I think holding out one more weekend on the standard rings won't be such a bad thing. FWIW, an experienced wrench should be able to do it (barring any problems) in like 10-15 min.

I would let the shop do it . After reading the inagural ride creaks and pops thread theres a lot you can do by forgetting something simple, or over torqueing. Your probably excited to get the compact I know I dig mine but If I were you I'd wait the extra week get it done right.

Rushing a wrench job to get on the road is bad news.

Yeah you kind of answered your own question. If you already had the tools and new how to do it you wouldn't be asking us.

Regards, Anthony

Turns out another shop in town (the one I frequent most of the time anyhow) can install it for me tonight. So I get the best of both worlds.

Thanks Guys.
