Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

one leg drills

So I have been doing one leg drills on my trainer to try to correct my pedal stroke. Ive been striving for an even "whir" of the trainer but Im havin trouble gettin it down. Is it possible to have it completely even? Also, what cadence should I start out at? I always try to start around 85-90 but end up flying to 105-115 in order to ty to keep the whir even. Ive been doing 1min sets switching legs for about 10-20 min. Should I place myself in an easy gear or no?
Thanks,
Nick

I use spinervals Time saver workout and it has a section with one leg drills. That part consists of high cadence spinning, followed by one leg drills (30 seconds each leg) x 10 reps. One minute recovery and then more high cadence spinning. It has really helped me. All of the one leg drills are done in a hard gear (large chain ring and 12 on the back).

Good Luck!

you ain't flying till you can manage 165 rpm one-legged

do that a few times after warmup (30 sec on, 5 sec switch legs, 30 sec...repeat 5x)
then go into normal 100-110 cadence workout with more load

it will teach them legs something good

honestly...i recommend insane cadences either to do all the
time, or just to try it for a while. then you will find that 110 is
quite sustainable. blasting out the hi rpms makes regular rpms
feel like a piece of cake
