Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pulled the trigger on a Pegoretti Marcelo yesterday....bike porn to come!!

hey guys, I decided to buy a Pegoretti yesterday and it should be built up by next week. Until then I only have a picture of the frame I'll post pics of the build as soon as I can. I got a good deal on it and I think i'm happy with the purchase so far.

bro, congrats--I don't think anyone here is familiar with Pegoretti, but you've got one of the nicest frames out there

I'd love to have a Marcelo or Lugino as my next bike--Dario is a genius

post a ride report when you get chance

what was your previous frame?

oh, and more pics

congrats.

i guy i used to ride with got a beautiful red one for his mid-life crisis

it was probably the most well crafted bike i've ever seen up close and personal, if only the guy hadn't ruined it by putting a triple on it

Thanks Zig, I'm excited about the purchase. Frame and fork was $2000 even, which is about a $500 discount. Luckily the distributor was trying to get rid of the frame as it is a 2005 model and it just happened to be my size.

My last ride was a 2003 Cannondale R3000 CAAD7 frame. I'm a clyde and it was just too unforgiving on my body.

congrats.

thanks Botto, well this is more of a "i'm in grad school and don't have a family yet so why not?" kind of purchase.

As far as a triple on the Peg, I might have to do it. I currently have Campy Centaur triple and i'm not a strong enough rider (or light enough rider) to go down to a double quite yet.

look up Pegoretti online, probably one of the best steel bikes in the world. Pegoretti makes about 400 frames a year and they are all handmade so it is highly unlikely for me to see one riding around.

Sweet. I would have one of those but I need custom, and I don't want to communicate through a third party (the dealer).

you can get a Pegoretti custom for a $150 upcharge. And you spend a whole lot of time getting everything perfect and squared away with Dario Pegoretti. I was going to get a custom one built but it was going to be 4 months minimum before it would be ready...and i just couldn't wait

Thanks, I think I'll keep that option open. Better yet if I can meet him at the next Interbike. Hurry with the pics!

Marcelo

I almost bought one of these, but opted for the Duende instead. I have had it since
January. It is a sweet ride. You should love the Marcelo!

i think the top of the headtube is extended so you don't have use any spacers..it makes the bike look pretty sleek. look online at some of the Marcelos...they are pretty cool without the spacer stack

I hate you (not really).

I want a Pegoretti so bad, but my checking account won't let me. Have fun riding that thing - you'll be the envy of every roadie out there.

Ha! Next time I talk to Dario and Gianni, I'll let them know there's a new owner out there. They'll be pleased!

I saw that bike at Interbike. Definitely beautiful, and a great choice. But then again, any Pegoretti bike is a beautiful bike, right?

I'm actually a bit jealous. But maybe it's an indication that it's time for me to get a new bike!
