Baptists laugh at me!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Baptists laugh at me!

One time, I couldn't get out of my clips fast enough, and fell over right in front of the First Baptist Church just as 500 Christians witnessed my dilemma as they walked into the church. Bad scene! I know they were all thinking: "It serves that sinner right! He should be going to church instead of engaging in heathen activities on Sunday!" The devil made me do it! Lord, forgive me!

If I saw you fell, I would have tried to help you up. I'm a Christian as well, aren't Christians supposed to portray the image of God?

If Jesus were a cyclist, what brand would he ride?

Umm guys... before we let this degenerate, let's just remember that this is a road cycling thread. If you want to dicuss religion and the relative merits of various Protestant theologies, you really should take that to another forum.

Moderately, V.

Lol, don't kno who's post was funnier- trmcgeehan or velocipedio.

Sometimes we get caught up in the moment in our posting haste...

I used to bike to school all the time (catholic school) I can remember quite a few occasions were I would have the bike slip out from under me in the ice. Or be pulling a wheelie in the parking lot and totally wipe out. The teachers/priest/students just got used to my antics. Maybe your Baptists just figure you were doing it for kicks and giggles.

(we hope atleast)

I know many Baptists, Methodists, non-Christians, or whatever who engage in "heathen" activities after church -- like watching football and drinking beer!!
Heck some even ride their bikes. Hmmm. Now that is REALLY a sin!!!

What better way to commune with God (or whoever your belief is) than riding around in nature.

Question.......... how would riding a bike be a heathen act?

Second..."If Jesus were a cyclist, what brand would he ride?"

I would have to say probably something Italian...you know, closer to home... gotta support the locals!

I certainly hope not.

I'm a Baptist and my job is to organise fund raising Bike rides for the Bible Society. (Like our 4200km ride across Australia next year.)

If bicycling is declared a heathen activity I'm out of a job.

I would say in a large group of people you would have many different reactions. Some probably thought you got what you deserved sure, others sympathy, still others saying "Cool Crash!"

Regardless, as the old saying goes, "Tragedy is if I fell into the hole, comedy is if you fell into the hole." No one really wants someone to fall on purpose (most of the time) but when it happens.....deeeeeeeep down inside everyone says.... damn, that looked like it hurt.....now that was awesome!

I think it's time we rejuvenated that thread, "My most embarrassing moment" and update it EM's from the last season.

He was humble...I bet he would ride an old beat up Huffy. I don't think it would be the newest flashiest Italian bike.

How about that pink-haired lady (I use that word loosely) What would she ride? Would it be gold plated with a Jesus hood ornament? Where would you put the WWJD bumper sticker?

"I don't think it would be the newest flashiest Italian bike."

Who said anything about flashy. Believe me, all Italian bikes are not flashy. Regardless, I will have to stand by my opinion... most upstanding bikers support the locals and since there arent bike manufacturers around Bethlehem, non that I know of anyway, I would assume the Rome would be the next stop for a lbs.
