Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I YAMM what I YAMM

On another forum I frequent, people often post every 1000th post or multiple of 100 as Yet Another Meaningless Milestone.

I figure I can do somthing similar with mileage.

I started riding in October at the suggest of a friend who is my LBS mechanic. I had a bike I had bought used there that was collecting dust. I got it road ready and started riding.

The first of this year I started riding in group rides with the LBS and commuting to work. I also bought and rebuilt a road bike which I love riding. I have made a goal this year ride 5000 miles and hit 1000 miles this morning on the way to work.

I've never had a real hobby in a long time, but this has become so much more for me. It is now a lifestyle. I'd like to extend a thanks to everyone here who has provided advice, encouragement, and humor whether you realized it or not.

Fred
(Yes that's my real name)

Congrats.....it's a nice feeling the first time you hit 1,000 miles. Now, you'll notice how quickly the miles will start to rack up. You'll blink and be at 2k before you know it.

I'm currently at 1,101.6 but am about a month behind where I wanted to be . Ah well.
