Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

All those San Francisco

There seems to be a lot of forum members that live in the bay area... I am currently living in Richmond, VA (beautiful, bike friendly place btw), but I am going to be moving to San Fran late this summer to try somthing new now that I am graduating college (finally). I figured there are a lot of cycling clubs in the area and I was hoping to meet some people to ride with and experience the area. I was out there a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time riding around Golden Gate Park - over the bridge, ferry back to downtown, and all through the city - one of the funnest, most eclectic bike rides Ive been on. So I am really looking foward to my time out there. Im sure most can agree its a beautiful city! Anyway - would be glad to hear anything anyone has to say about biking in the area - whether it be clubs to look into, or treks to think about once i finally make it there. thanks !!

I really enjoy riding in the Marine headlands, and riding up Hyde right below Lombard : )

The ride down the 1 to Santa Cruz is exceptional. Just watch out for the headwinds. And its a long one, 140 mile round trip...

the coastal highway looked like a hardworking but fun ride. i drove back and forth between san fran and santa cruz while a couple times during the middle of the week and it was relatively low traffic. that would be a fun ride. safe to say here in the east...the coast is much less dramatic. so im definalty looking foward to that.

There's so much to choose from in the Bay Area. It's not difficult to find beautiful rides on very quiet roads.
