Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In time you'll figure out your preferred size and how to measure it. e.g you may decide to always go for a 55 c-c standard geometry, 54 c-c top tube, have specific seat to stem, seat to pedal, stem length and bar reach/drop/width and use that as a guide, comparing virtual equivalent values for compact geometry. With experience you can buy anything at an online store or ebay, even with the sometimes greater risk the latter presents.

Ummmm...I did seek help at an LBS. Thats where I rode the bikes. Each shop said I should be a 54" so thats what I bought. It is what the pros told me. What they DIDNT tell me was that frame sizes differ between manufacturers.

although Im new here I would like to lay my claim to be head shill for bikesdirect.com,as I have 4 motobecanes-all from them.I have a century team 05 dura-ace 7800-it was 1700$ much less than the ultegra 9 speed trecks that two of my friends bought.I also have a le champion 03 a fly 9357 mountain bike and the new toy,a messenger track bike that I put a nexus 8 speed hub in (so fun) BUT PLEASE dont tell bikes direct that I bought a bike in a shop, my 1942 schwinn newsboy special replica, because after they take over the world by sabateuging this and all bike forums there will be a special place for me and the other shills-oh yeah the first 3 all have 2-3 thousand miles but the new internal gear bike is doing 30 miles most days and will soon catch up.

You can add me to the list as I purchased my Moto Century Pro from my local Cycle Spectrum in Plano, TX. So far so good. I'm very close to having everything dialed in. It's considerably more comfortable than my Cannondale R300 is/was. I would have preferred to have a compact instead of the triple, but the price was right. I couldn't find another bike with similar components close to the price. It came with full Ultegra, Shimano wheels, Kenda tires (which I'm not crazy about), and Wellgo pedals (which really suck so I'll replace with my Looks).

Add my name to the list. I bought a 56cm Sprintour in July 2004. Almost 8000 miles now. Changed the seat to an SLR immediately, later put on a Thomson Elite seat post, Easton EC-90 carbon bars and a Pazzaz carbon stem, and wanted a change of from the original Kenda Kontender tires and went with Conti GP3000's in January. It's finally the way it should be.

I had no issues with the set-up as it came from BD. Perfectly adjusted triple etc. The cables were too long that's it. Last month I finally had the Ritchey DS Pro wheels trued 2mm out front and rear...

No complaints. I guess I'm a shill... too. Shame I ain't gettin' paid fer it.

Very cool man!

Well, time to reciprocate....here's an older pic of mine, back when I swapped out most of the components in an effort to move to campagnolo parts...it's undergoing some radical changes at the moment again, and is taken apart (mostly correcting some novice mistakes I made)...that bike is my frankenstein

hehe...I guess it does. It's actually my girlfriend's case. Mine is the grey. Maybe we should trade. Anyway, in True BF fasion, here it is assembled, no adjustments, nothing tightened down, cables/housing too long, no air in tires, and in front of a white garage door...well, at least one of the photoes. Color didn't look too great on the camera so I tried using my work lamp for better lighting...no good. Daytime pictures to come tomorrow. And of course, Dinah inspecting the new toy. I was supprised to see the fade instead of the light blue that was on the BD webpage. It fades from a dark royal blue that just slightly darker than a bluberry nutrigrain bar wrapper to a lighter blue (still darker looking than the BD pic). I'm all giddy now.

Very nice looking bike and garage door! They did not have that model in stock at the bike shop when I got mine so I did not get to test ride it. But, I am happy with my LeChampion SL. I am adding you to the list.

I'm sorry, Ostuni. Although you're much more deserving than I, you cannot be recognized as Head Shill. I have claimed that title under the universally-accepted rule of 'I called it first'.

I actually miss my Hybrid. I had a really nice Jamis hybrid which was pretty much top of the line with an Sram drive train. It was brutally heavy but rode as sweet as sugar. I began to wonder what it could do that my road bikes couldn't do and the answer, of course, is be more comfortable to ride. I think you may enjoy that bike more than you think.

Ostuni,

Haven't been keeping up, but how do you like your Immortal Force? That's the one I originally thought of buying before getting the Le Champ SL. All I can say is that they're stunningly nice to look at. Did you get the white or black? Is the ride smooooooooooooooothhhhhhhhhhhhhh?

Also, the fact that many in this thread own more than one Moto speaks pretty nicely as to their feelings. The biggest downside, if you have a good inkling as to the size you need, is that you can't rely on the follow up service should you have a problem, unless you live near one of the shops.

Still, all in all, if it arrives in good shape, a very hard deal to beat.

Hmmmmmmm, wonder what size I should get if I were to pop for an immortal force?

So, a second question to Ostuni: Is the size comparable to the Le Champ or a bit bigger or smaller for the same cm's?
