saddle advice
 

I am soon ( hopefully ) to take ownership of a new Waterford. The LBS is building with utlegra. The one item I've not selected is the saddle. On my current Cannondale, I've tried several saddles none of which really satisfy the desire for a painless ride. I recently read that Brooks saddles, after a wearing in period, provide freedom from pain. Anyone able to comment on this??

Try the specialized toupe, i havent heard anything bad about it>Brooks are great as over time it will get better as its moulds to your butt.

I think a Waterford deserves a Brooks saddle......I have one and it's very nice.

I think it's more like getting it in the right position for you. Once you do, it's great. It is so nice to ride and not think about how uncomfortable my saddle is. Actually, it is nice to ride and not think about the saddle at all.

I have the B17N by the way. I'd highly recommend it.

I can't recommend a saddle because all of are different. What I can comment on is the Waterford. Welcome to the club and a great great ride. I have one and have loved the ride. Congrats

I have 3 bikes and use a B17 on all of them. It is the only saddle I can ride on for more than 2 hours without pain or discomfort and they are good right out of the box for me. No break in necessary.

I have a Silver Specialized Elite Allez Triple, do you guys think a black brooks saddle would look apt on it? Do they get ruined in wet weather?

I got this bike used and am trying to fashion it up a bit, since whoever owned it previous installed hideously ugly red-colored wheels and red handlebar tape. I think the brooks look is extremely classy and that leather is a great idea but am unsure if it'd clash stylistically. Advice?

Stylistically, the saddle is covered by your butt while riding. And they do make models that are a little more stylish by today's standards (Swift, Professional, & Swallow).

The Brooks may not be stylish to everyone, but when it agrees with your butt, it is so nice! I think it would suit any bike just fine.

As far as recommending something, sure I can recommend it. It might not work so well for you, but if you're asking for experiences or opinions......

Depends on your riding position as to whether or not a Brooks B17 would be comfy or not. If you ride with the handlebars below seat level, you'll probably not want to go that route.

I have gone through 5 seats in the last 6 months or so, after finally deciding on the Specialized Toupe. I found it to be quite comfortable. The Specialized Alias isn't too bad, but my sitbones feel a bit weird after sitting on it for a few hours......not pain, but just not "right". It's been resigned to my trainer bike. The Toupe is a really good seat.

I just got a Jamis Eclipse with a Fiz' ik' Arrone (sp?) I have come to love it, but I jumped on my old Fuji today with a 25 year old Brooks Team Professional. (The skies were threatening rain:) ) The Brooks was so comfortable! I was in heaven. It really does mold to your anatomy! After it is broken in you don't sit on a Brooks saddle, you sit in a brooks saddle. Enjoy!

I've been going through a bunch of saddles, trying to find something comfortable for long rides. What finally made the biggest difference was the shorts! Bought some new Voler shorts (previously I had a few different Performance pairs) and had the least pain yet on a longer ride (65 miles on Sat). Currently my saddle is a Koobi AU Enduro, but it's the shorts that made it work
