Poll: Do you ride to work? If so, how far?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do you commute to work by bike? If so, how far?

I confess that I don't. I live about 12 miles (one way) from the office on scary city streets.

Considering moving my office to one about half a mile from my house. Drawback is that my boss isn't there.

I try to when its not raining... its like 3.75 miles each way... I would do it year round, but I gotta be there by 7am, and sometimes its hard to get motivated that early when its cold, dark and rainy.

I commute every morning - the ride's only about 1.5 miles, so it's quick. It beats walking or driving, though.

It's only 2 miles to school each way so I try to make it interesting by racing cars. Everyone speeds, though.

I have just considered doing a bike commute and so far I left my bike at work one day, rode home that evening, and rode to work the next day. 8.46 miles, one way, according to the odo. I think this will be a very interesting poll as I am quite curious to see the results.

BTW: The commute was freakin' awsome except the sweatiness when I got to the office.

My commute is about 18 miles each way (~35 miles roundtrip) with plenty of hills... some of them approaching 10% grade. I don't commute by bike exclusively. Currently, I drive into work with replacement clothes on M/W/F and bike on Tu/Th. This way I don't have to bike with a backpack or panniers. As the weather gets nicer, I'm planning on flipping my schedule so that I'm biking three days and driving two.

I pedal to work nearly every day. It's six miles each way.

On warm days I go at a leisurely clip to stay dry. Coming home I go at it "hammer and tongs." I've got a mud bike (mt bike with 1.25 slicks) my everday Fuji touring bike for Monday-Thursday, and my bullhorn equiped Litage ready to rip on Fridays.

About 2 miles each day. I time trial it in and back every day that's not raining. Sometimes (rarely) I take a longer route home that's about 15 miles.

edit: 2 miles each way.

Right at this moment in time I am not riding my bicycle to work.

However, last year I rode a 70 km (43.5 miles) round trip to my place of employment.

This year, starting in about a week, it will be about a 20 km (12.5 miles) round trip.

I ride to work. It can take me 20-25 mins or I can leave earlier (both to and from) and stretch it to around 1.5 hours. It's 4pm right now and I am going to leave work to be home, showered and eating dinner by 6pm.

I have no cycle computer ATM, so I can't tell how far it is. around 10 mins flat (direct route) on my moto.

We don't get snow here, only cold. So it's easy to ride year round. But I honestly think drivers here in Sydney, AUST are worse than any I have come across in the USA.

I used to hop on my bike in the morning during high school only to discover I was running late.. boy, did my sprinting improve. I had a short 10% grade hill that I would have to power up every single morning or get marked tardy by my English teacher.

My commute is 10 miles each way, the bike rack at work is not the best, but it keeps my bike safe after I lock it. I have a shower at work and I have a suitcase full of clothes that I swap out once a week when I am on a rest day (normally on Friday). If it is raining I usually do not ride, unless I get caught in it and then I just make the best of it. The only think I do not like about the commute is all the darn traffic lighte, (about 15 of them) that always kills my avaerage speed. On my best day I can average only 18.5 mph (so far).

I commute by bike every day, rain or shine, and have done so for over 20 years. The round trip is only 5 miles most days. It's a bit longer if I ride with my sons to and from their school. It way quite a bit longer when I would take them to and from daycare in a child carrier, but those days are long gone.

At the moment at least...

I commute mostly by bike, at least weather permitting (We had more bike accidents caused by ice than is good for a company..). And it's only about 1.5 miles round.

At least it is now. The way things are now, I'll not be commuting to this place anymore as from August - and so far I don't know where else...

18 miles round trip. Day in day out (unless I'm resting for some reason).

I commute using fossil fuels.
Even cyclists commuting use fossil fuels. These fuels have been used in the extraction, manufacture and delivery of the bike, your clothing and the food you eat.

Bikes reduce environmental impact compared to cars, but even if everyone cycled, the world would still be ****ed.

14 miles each way. I ride the highway with dedicated bike lanes to town. It gets dicey riding through town but I'm trying different routes to avoid traffic.
