There was this one time where a group of us training on outdoor skates were weaving in and out of slower traffic. It was a main street of a small downtown and we were going downhill really fast.
Someone shouts, "HEY!"
We turn and see a cop get into his car and begin to pull into traffic.
Well it was on. We bolted through the rest of the traffic and blasted right through a traffic light. Then we scurried behind a building and waited. No cops in site.
Of course we were young and stupid. But it was fun.
We were also chased out of mall be security guards. And later that day I was hit by a car. Serves me right.

My first reaction to reading this was 'well, you DID speed. So why is the cop the jerk?'. I see that some others feel the same. But after thinking about it, I feel a little differently.

I'm sure someone else has pointed this out 100+ posts into the thread, but I think the fact that he stayed back to ensure that he didn't speed again was a little jerkish... jerkly... of, or pertaining to, the qualities that a jerk may posses... Anyways, I don't think a cop would necessarily have done that to anyone else in a car. There's always the outside chance that the cop maintained the speedlimit to set a good example. It's possible, but highly unlikely, in my experience.

Similar thing happened to me in my youth.
I have regretted every day not insisting on that ticket. It would be framed with a shrine! I would show it to everyone.

Now the one's I've gotten in cars were just stupid, of course...

God job with the speed

I haven't seen anyone look at the viewpoint that the cop was probably chuckling afterwards about the "Mock" stern lecture and the thrill he just gave a guy on a bike! :D

And the lack of lights therefore increases your chances of becoming one of them should you be out at that time of day. Why don't you have lights BTW?

i can't bring myself to put lights on my Pegoretti...it would ruin it...i'm a bit OCP. I'm normally off the bike before I'd need them...i'll probably pick some lights up tomorrow though...i guess it is time

Don't carry a driver's liscense with you when you ride, unless you plan to stop for the night in a hotel. I carry my health insurance card and my cell phone. I was stopped once for some BS violation, I didn't put a foot down at a stop light, and handed the officer my insurance card. I got off easy, as the bike cop had to call in a crusier to chase me down. The judge threw the ticket out, as there isn't a law regarding how a bicycle should stop. As for no DL, since I wasn't driving an automobile, I didn't need it with me and I presented a vaild ID upon request.
