CONVERTED the WIFE!!!

My wife surprised me a month ago by saying she'd like to get a bike. This is the same woman who has given me quite a bit of flak in the last year+ over my bicycle purchases and cycling obsession (2 bikes and tons of gear last year alone).....I asked her to go with me to the LBS to check out their annual spring sale, and she agreed. With no intention of buying anything (she told me to leave the bike rack at home:rolleyes: ), we loaded up the three kids and headed down.......Two hours later, we had purchased not one, but THREE new bikes (a Raleigh SC30 Comfort bike for my wife, a Specialized FUSE IV for my 13 year old, and a Gary Fisher 16" Gamma Ray w/ training wheels for my 6 year old)!!!!!!!!!........After just one ride on her bike, my wife decided the Raleigh was much too heavy and slow, and that she wanted something lighter and faster!!.....Yesterday I picked up my wife's brand new powder blue Trek 7.5FX WSD (Women Specific Design) that the LBS ordered for her. Today I rode with my wife for the very first time in our marriage (7 years) and she LOVED IT!!!!!!!!.....Her bike fits her perfectly, and she fell in love with it immediately!!....I can't tell you how happy it feels to have my wife finally experience the joy of cyling with me after going solo in my household for so long. My kids are into it now, and we have another activity to enjoy as a family that's positive and healthy...................I almost forgot. Maybe she won't give me a hard time when I ask to buy that new Mountain Bike to add to my stable!!;)

Dad: 2005 Trek Pilot 5.2

Awesome....you achieved the near-impossible. I tried converting my girlfriend, but she's too neurotic, much like the rest of the women in her family (which is a bad sign). Although, at times, I'm glad I get to go out by myself......

.....ok, most times.

Next, she'll want a Madone 5.9 WSD racing bike. ;)

You need to write a book or travel the country giving seminars to guys like me.

Great job!!

My girlfriend was the one who brought me into the wonderful world of cycling. We're both healthier and happier people because of it. It's nice when you have someone to enjoy your sport with.

I love biking with my wife. Our first date (in the late 1970s) was on bikes. Now we have two kids and two tandems, so we can throw the kids on the back and still keep up some speed. Congratulations on getting the family into our sport.

Be careful what you wish for because you may get it.. Oh you already have.

I love the title to this post. It leaves so much open to the imagination about what you converted her into. :D I want to convert mine into a Ferrari Enzo or one of those mini fridges that holds a keg and has a tap on top. I tried to convert her into a cyclist and that failed. At least she likes to sail with me. Congrats on finding something your whole family can and will do together. Hope I am as lucky as my 5 year old and 2 year old get to riding age.

that's awesome. My wife hates, and I mean HATES bikes. She had this old piece of crap mountain bike, a k-mart special, and there was a big hill near her place, and that was like 10 years ago the last time she rode. She just hated it so much that she vowed to never try it again, even though I continuously try and convince her to take up riding.

I figured he made her single speed, because it would be hard to believe he got her 'fixed'.

Outstanding! My wife has gotten the bug too, and it's great. Last weekend we went on a beautiful 34-miler together. Good leisurely fun. Today, while I was stuck indoors working, she decided to try taking her Roubaix (recent birthday present) up the local testpiece climb. It's a pretty nasty one, with three steep segments. The first one is the worst, with grades of 15%+. She called me on her cell phone after the first segment, sounding a little shaky and out of breath, asking how bad the second and third segments really were. I told her, and she hung up sounding like she was about to head back down. Twenty minutes later my phone rings again: "The view from up here is great!!!" She made it to the top, and is ready for more next time we go riding together.

Bottom line: A good marriage is about the best thing that life offers, and cycling is another of life's treats. Combine the two and you're a lucky man.

+1, LMAO

I convert my wife and then she converts back. Been cycling through this for 30 years.

Quite an accomplishment! Asking her when she is going to start riding her bike is now one of two things that I am not allowed to ask her to do.:D

Hey, is this the same GF that you posted a couple of weeks ago on the rice-rocket motorcycle? I'd say you've got her converted pretty well, and if you can get that photo  who cares about neurosis!
:o

+1 - :( 13 years and still no luck. :(

I wish I could get my wife to give up the mtb and ride a road bike. Just happens that a guy I work with is selling 2 small frame bikes so I'm going to try to get her onto one of them and see if she likes it.

Ummmmm....dude....do you think I'd spend this much time on the internet if she was my gf???

Ok, now I'm depressed.

I converted my wife a while back. She's very competitive, and couldn't keep up with me on her POS. She wanted to go faster, so we got her an old Marinoni to try. By the following spring, we were out looking for full-Ultegra bikes. She gave me the stink-eye when she saw the bill for my new Cervelo, but she sees how happy I am on it, so it's all good [plus getting her a new Titus Racer-X didn't hurt].

Are you sure you aren't married to my wife? She just found the Discovery Card Bill so it was on. Good thing I split my purchase between two cards and paid the rest in cash :D.

Lectron 04-23-06 04:14 AM

I've just stopped hoping.:( I thought that when we made the decision living car free,
at least for a while, would be the trigger. But nope! Well at least not yet.

Maybe she just needs to suffer a bit more:rolleyes:
