Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Please advise on shorts less that $50.00 a pair

I tried a search and came up with a billion threads on shorts. I'm going to order a couple of pair and would like your opinions on the best shorts for 50 bucks/pair or so.

Performance has good bang-for-the-buck shorts. Even better when they are on sale - which is about 20 days a month.

- depends on kinds of shorts?

- or even cheaper, go with padded briefs, such as Nashbar's liner short (only available for women at time of this posting)...

- the Sock Company has some Pearl Izumi shorts on sale right ($35 IIRC) now w/free shipping

- you can look at some Canari offerings at your local Sports Authority (one near me had some, but i'd buy online cheaper, personally)

- i'm sure you'll find a brand you like...

Look for Pearl Izumi Attack shorts at your local bike shop. I think they're more comfortable than the cheapest Voler shorts, which cost about the same. Trying on the shorts at your bike shop will ensure a comfortable fit.

Perfomance/Nashbar liquicells are pretty comfy. The liquigel's however are awful, too thick. They are 30-40 range

I'm usually not a big fan of team kit apparel (a bit flashy for my style), but these are relatively neutral. And w/ the Nalini insert, they should be quite a good, comfortable find @ $50:

Also, not sure if you're dead set on shorts, but these are bibshorts --- which are usually much more comfortable than shorts.

Performance or Nashbar "Century" shorts can sometimes be purchased for $25 or less on sale - I love them and use them on all my long rides.

my fav short is from colorado cyclist... https://www.coloradocyclist.com/commo...389&TextMode=0

I don't like the gel padded shorts...

I think to get a good fit, you need to get an 8 panel short.

Good quality, 8 panel, 3 ply pad, shorts for $27 and bibs for $30 from these guys. I've got a number of them and have been very pleased.

Yep! I've bought a lot of stuff from these guys over the last couple of seasons. They're great folks to deal with too. Fast delivery, they offer 30 day returns and the prices can't be beat. Jersey's a great too. My favorite jersey at the moment are their Falconi's.

Take care,

Steve

I've been wearing the same two pairs of PI's for a couple of years and want to try out some others. The PI's are OK but I'm always looking for something a little more comfortable.

Looks like I'm going to go ahead and order a variety of brands and I'll buy a couple of bibs in there too.

Thanks for all the responses everyone!

I just bought a rat fink and an arrogant bastard canari jersey off thier website. I prefer the canari stuff, i have 3 jerzeys and 3 bibs, all the jerseys are canari and i have 2 falconi and 1 canari bib. The canari bib is thinner than the falconi stuff but has a better chamois. The canari bib is custom stuff and has a white and blu marquis over your ass, there is no doubt in my mind that the riders behind me can see my crack through it

Performance elite shorts. These shorts are good for under 50 bucks. Didn't hold up as well as PI attack shorts which hold up a little better but then again cost a little more. My favorite saying however is, "You get what you pay for".

The lowest Nalini bibs are around 50 bucks, and last for a long time...... the only problem is the chamois gets real sweaty fast!, great for colder weather though
