Monster Cookie Metric - 4/30 - Final Details

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Okay, registration opens at 8 and we roll at 8:30.

Last year, we met near the planter just to the west of the port-o-johns. Seemed natural since so many guys were in line there anyway.

Shall we say we meet there?

Sounds good. Weather looks promising at this point..

EDIT: ..it looks as if the forcasted winds are 12mph from the NNW... we should be FLYING on the way back. Can you say catch a ride with a tandem?

Instead of Powerade and cookies, maybe we should grab food from a 7-11 on Sunday?

Thought you guys might enjoy this if you didn't see it - In today's Oregonian there's a piece about the nice spring weather over the weekend and some examples of what couped-up Portlanders did with their first glimpse of sunshine. One example made me smirk (mostly remembering my college days):

On Sauvie Island, "Outside [the Cracker Barrel Grocery Store], on a break from a bike ride, 25-yead old Jordan Tull and 32-year-old Matthew Hope celebrated with 40-ouncers of Pabst Blue Ribbon and microwave burritos. The two, both metal fabricators, have made it a Sunday tradition to head somewhere, anywhere, by bicycle. During the winter, they cruised the Springwater Corridor even when snowflakes threatened."

I'd be needing the port-a-johns pretty quickly (for a couple reasons) after that type of mid-ride 'meal'; not to mention surving all over the road to get back.

That's fine as long as it's set up the same way! How about near the port-o-johns if no planter.... I can't believe I wrote that. How strange...

I haven't heard from or seen him in weeks. And I can't find his number - a regular problem I have - do you have it? Send it to me via PM, I'd love to give him a call.

We averaged right at 18 mph last year, even with the rain. Goes to show what a group working together can do.

If it's warm and dry, an early season run at 20 could be possible.

Clairfication - after checking the log for last years ride - we averaged 15 for the first 30 and 21+ for the last 32 or so.

I seem to recall the heavy rains came in the first half of the ride. I can't remember the wind though...

Yeah Rad, how could you forget my rooster tails and your move around the falling rider?! That was quite impressive from where I was riding.

OMG - I had forgotten about that maneuver. And the rooster tails - they made it impossible to draft. And Shifty - I'll never forget him...where'd he go? There he is! Where? I don't know but I see him....I think.

I'll be on the 55/Rad Trek.
