Painful experience on my ride today....

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Painful experience on my ride today....

I recently shipped my bike from Atlanta to Memphis so had to asseble it out of the box a few days ago. i got everything in place, screwed everything down, etc, took it on a couple short rides, and everything *seemed* fine.

Until today.

I was about 8.5 miles into my ride this afternoon and was approaching an intersection at about 23mph. As i got closer, it looked a little bumpy, so i started coasting, shifted my weight to the back, and stood off of the seat just slightly so i wouldnt get jostled too much. I get to the middle of the intersection and hit a pretty large bump which shot the bike straight up hard enough that my butt hit the back of the saddle and forced it down (not the stem but the angle of the seat). the nose is now pointing up at a 45 degree angle (i keep it dead level) and when i hit another bump, it nails me...right in the cash and prizes. ouch. i had to pull over, not only to level my seat out (and tighten that sucker down), but to give the boys a breather. this all happened in about a half a second.

lesson of the day: make sure EVERYTHING is tight....
