Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Without a doubt if you dont get your position right.

I went through it when I switched back to riding my smaller Pinny while building the R2.5. After some rides I had sleepy peepee. I adjusted my position a bit to weight my sit bones more, and the pereneum less, and it went away. My Cervy was good out of the box.

Lesson? Stay off the Pereneum.

Ironic since i'm begining to look into replacing the one that came on my trek (give you $1 if you can guess what it is). Having said that, i dont know much on the topic but i think i know enough to shed some light on this.

In most things be it jogging, weight lifting, walking, sleeping, or riding a bike, if there is pain then something is wrong. Pain afterall is your body saying "Hey dont do that". So i guess in theory, if there is no pain then you have little to worry about.

I do know that bikers can suffer from nerve damage in the netherlands. As far as i know signs of this are numbness. It is indeed a risk, but it's not something that you shouldn't be able to spot and prevent early.

If your junk is numb or hurts you need to make some changes. Fast. Like right now.

It is certainly not an inevitable part of cycling to have a dead johnson. It often not your saddle alone. Check the hight of the saddle and the tilt of it, I know for me if the nose is up, I feel it fast. Once you are happy with the fit and set up, move on to thinking about buying a saddle that fits your body better.

If my saddle is not level and positioned far enough forward so that I sit naturally on my sit bones, my stuff gets numb.

I guess you have never been on a hard run, a hilly bike ride, a time trial, or a longer endurance event. If there isnt any pain then you are not trying hard enough. Endurance pain is a way to know that your body is getting better whipped into shape and that you are pushing yourself to the limits.

The sad thing about all this is that if cyclists merely did a push up or two every once in a while (instead of being in poor physical condition) all lot of these conditions could simply be avoided.

+1

I cried when I was halfway through my first TT, I was so tired. But then again maybe that was because I was only 6 hours into a 12-hour event. I finished however and wasn't last so the pain was worth it.

Ok, lets flex our internet muscles

Of course there is a bit of soreness when you excersize

Yes there is pain when you compete

I was a football player, i know the difference between pain and soreness. When moderatly excersizing there should not be pain.

I've had a really bad night so my better half is telling me to ignore this but Jesus H Christ. Why do people on internet forums have to take things out of context just to make it look like they know what the hell they are talking about.

Do you get pain when sprinting at the end of a stage on your bike? Yes of course
Do you get pain when you push yourself another mile on a six mile run? Yes of course
Do you get pain tackleing a 200 pound fullback? Yes of course
Do you get pain when you hit that final rep on the bench? Yes of course

Does the pain last? No, it shouldnt...which is why it isn't pain as in an injury. If you are sitting on your bike and your dick cant get hard then something is wrong...that is pain caused by an injury, and if you are getting it then you have issues.

Go run a tirathlon so you can come tell us how much pain you are in and we will all bow down to you through our keyboards and everyone after you will put a cute +1 so they can all look as equally as cool as you for "proving me wrong"

Good grief.

lol.. that cracks me up! BUT me too!! i've tried several different saddles thus far.. forte slx, terry fly (buzzoff), and ended up riding my arione some more to see if i can find a better fit. till now... i still have the sleepy peepee effect. before my boys were numb as well.. but now it's just the sleepy peepee..

my saddle is level, lowered my seatpost a bit, moved my saddle forward, and flipped my stem upwards.

now just need to move my arione up some more so i can rest on my seatbone instead of the soft tender perineum part!

guess i gotta try some more adjustments.

Numbing to that area could mean you need a different saddle; I went through five saddles before I found the one. Here's a good saddle that was just release to the lbs, a WTB Pure V, it is a really nice design.

I find soreness and numbness to be two different issues. Soreness is usually caused by lack of riding and that's your butts way of telling you that, it also could be a saddle that is too narrow. Numbess is caused by poor fit or a saddle with too much padding. All my bikes have different saddles, all have caused me problems, all are now setup correctly and I can spend hours on them without any issue.

damn.. the WTB Pure V looks like a heavily padded saddle. you sure it's good for long rides??
