Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant TCR-1 Aero w/Shimano 105 10spd

With R550 wheels & Ultegra derailleurs. What should I expect to pay for this bike used. A guy at work is selling his, I think he used the bike for training rides but the components and wheels are brand new.

The bike would be for my wife since I already have 2 nice road bikes.

Well, if it is 10 speed 105, very new. Unless it is an old frame with new parts.

Beats me. The frame is painted a matte black. It's a small and the geometry is very compact and it is stiff as hell.

No computer, platform pedals and a wierd as hell seat angle-Who knows? Doesn't look like it was used much.
Might be able to match the paintjob up with a make on Giant's page.

Those pedals just kill the bike.

I put those pedals on there so I could get my wife to ride it. It had no pedals on it when he gave it to me to try out. I figure if she decides she wants it I'll try to get her into clipless after that.

BTW-This is a woman who never rides and when she does she goes out and rides 60 miles with a friend of hers. She is very fit and runs 3-4 half marathons a year. I've been married to this woman for 14 years and she still weighs 125lbs even after having our son a few years ago. She clings to this heavy $250 Trek mtb though and refuses to try a road bike...I'm trying though.

looks like a 2003, which originally came equipped with bullhorns and aerobars.

So he has made a lot of changes to it, or maybe bought the frameset NOS from a LBS and built it up himself(or someone else did) I would say $800 or so?

That's what I was thinking. He's asking $1000 but I think that's a bit high even though the groupset and wheels alone are "worth" that new. It's a moot point though unless I can sway my wife on it.

The frame was. The guy is a Cat1 racer and he has 4 or 5 road bikes. He was using this frame for training rides. I don't know where he got the group/wheels, it was my impression that they came on another bike but he never used them. He used to ride for Giant and he has a T-Mobile team bike for sale also but that's out of our price range.

Maybe if you "un-flipped it" and got her a nice comfortable saddle for a more upright riding position she would take to it better.

Well, the weekend is almost over and I still haven't gotten my wife on this bike yet. Oh well, looks like it's going back to the owner tomorrow.
