Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

106.812 miles per hour a new world record, I guess downhill MTB was not made to hit a pot hole at that speed.
11 broken bones....thats got to hurt.

I cant really make it out was he wearing a mtb skin suit with body armor. at that speed a motocycle racing suit with full padding would be a better choice.

Great video

Bicycle rule of thumb #4567: Check frame integrity before racing down the side of a volcano.

actually if you look the fork bottoms out and the tire contacts the frame at the downtube, causing the frame to fail I think.

+1, though my thought was that the fork bottomed out, and rebounded HARD, and just ripped the headtube off. Those are some fast bumps.

I've seen this before, first run was practice and then the full body suit for a shot at the world record. I guess he did all kinds of wind tunnel testing on the suit and bike and had a special helmet made. Too bad he forgot to do a stress analysis on the frame.

It's like those videos of extreme skiers (or insert any other "X" sport) that tumble down a mountain. Am I supposed to pity these people? As far as I'm concerned, I just don't want to choke on my dinner from laughter while watching these kinds of shows on tv.

Yeah, needs a little more compression-damping in the fork, maybe more spring-rate? The head-tube should definitely have been braced on both sides with plates to the top- and downtubes like a BMX bike though...

I would also say the first-aid practice of stripping and jiggling someone who've just had a 100mph+ crash and possible broken bones and spinal-injuries isn't the best thing to do....

Oh he had a helmet on-- the resistance from sliding on the lava scree ripped it off his head.

Yes, the crew was only experiences in camera & timing, collecting & showing someone blood dripping off their face after their crash is not the best medical attention either. Just plain dumb and annoying - poor preparation, no excuses.
