Weight Loss Suggestions?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weight Loss Suggestions?

On a 3 lb. Ti frame:

+Easton EC90 fork
+Ritchie Aluminum handlebars
+Thomson ‘Elite’ stem
+FSA headset
+Easton EC70 seatpost
+Specialized Avatar gel saddle
+Mavic Open Pro-Ultegra hubs
+Michelin Pro race 2 tires
+Ultegra 6500 brakes
+Dura Ace shifters (9sp)
+Campagnolo Chorus front derailleur
+Campagnolo Record triple
+Forte ‘Classic’ (Look clone) pedals
+Shimano Ultegra chain
+SRAM 9sp cogs
+Dura-Ace rear (lc) derailleur

= 19 lbs (well, a hair under)

What gives …or, rather, what should go for 1 lb loss?

Not critical, I know.

2 lb CF frame.
Avatar Saddle is on the heavy side...try the Toupe and save 200g+ (that is nearly half a pound right there)
Thompson stem isn't light but you will only save 30g-50g there.
While the wheels aren't heavy they aren't light either...you could loose nearly a pound there too.
Could get lighter pedals too.

Pretty easy to shed a pound off that bike....seriously saddle, and wheels alone will get you a pound easy.

Hadn't considered that saddle options would make such a difference in weight -thanks for that. The wheels definitely stay though, at least the rear as they've proved to be solid, indestructible as advertised and assayed by many BF members.

The big unknown to me is the cranks. I got the crankset from my friendly lbs guy for close to nothing. I don't know how old it is, much it weighs relative to newer cranksets and others. If I got a carbon double - which I'm thinking of getting, I wonder what the savings would be in weight.

Some additional weight savings can be found by

1. shaving your head (who loves ya baby)
2. shaving the rest of your body (waxing not recommended)
3. keeping nails trimmed (no polish)
4. fasting before every ride
5. Filling tires with helium
6. flapping elbows for additional lift (also gets car drivers attention)
7. ride nude (local laws may vary)

It's pretty heavy, but you're looking at $500 for a significantly lighter one with BB, IIRC. I've done a little research, and it seems to me you're looking at roughly $500 to $1,000 per pound.

Pedals and saddle. Obvious, no? You have cheapo pedals and a gel saddle for the rest of that stuff... it makes no sense if you're trying to drop weight on the bike. Any other upgrade seems too expensive for a slight drop in weight, but if you have the dough to burn on a lighter bike... go for it.

BTW, which shoes do you have? The weight of shoes is often overlooked.

And take a dump before you saddle up.

Hmmmm.....I wonder what the average turd weighs, in grams?

saddle alone is almost 400 grams, even the cheapo forte pro from performance will take about 200g off
wheels are probably around 1700-1800, ditch them for a set of ac sprint 350's and save another 400g

600g=21 oz almost 1.5 pounds

You are always lighter when you wake up in the morning...ride then...you probably just saved 3 lbs. and you didn't spend a dime.

God am I smart.

saddle and the crank are the 2 biggest opportunities.

I'm ignoring the funny comments... no, actually, I'm waiting for one

Yeah, it's really not that important to drop some major cash. I have lighter Look pedals on my other bike. I might swap them.

Again, the seat, who knew? I'll definitely look at my options there.

Shoes? What kind of shoes should I have? They're silver...LG, I believe.
