And the wife chose.......
Well, first off thanks to those who responded to my original post. Went to the lbs tonight and my wife rode 4 bikes. The Lemond Reno WSD, the Trek 1000Wsd, 1200 mens and the 1500wsd. She quickly narrowed it down to either the Lemond or the 1200.. She got fit to both, took several rides and chose....
The mens 1200. Tiagra components except for the 105 rear. She loved the fit and feel and the way it rode. She eventually said there was no comparison once they both were set up for her. She upgraded the wheels to the Bontrager paired spoke wheels, (she liked the looks) and other than that she's thrilled. Well almost, while shes not prissy and into pink or purple, she wasn't thrilled with the black and aluminum look, but after getting it home, she started to really like it.
I was a little disapointed. I'm not a big Trek fan and was hoping she would get the Lemond. NOT because I think Trek is bad, just because I like having things that are a little different than everyone else has. 8 out ot 10 bikes I see around the city I work in (a big bike city) are Treks. But all in all, I'm happy that shes happy.
Now we need to ride. Doing the bike the drive on the 28th, hope to get a few more medium rides in with her before that.
Thanks again for the help. Sorry about the stock Trek website pic, butI didnt want to get yelled at that this post was worth nothing without pics.
AND: No we're not flipping it.

My wife has been happy with her 1500 for a couple of years now, and she's got plenty of miles on it, it's served her well. I know that the closer one gets to Wisconsin the more Treks you're bound to see, but there's a lot of Treks in the STL area as well, but there's a ride I do once a year where the Lemonds make up 8 of every 10 bikes out there, weird.

The enclosed picture is the 1200, is that what she got?

1200 = Tiagra components except 105 rear derailleur
1500 = all 105 shifters, front derailleur, rear derailleur, cassette, chain, generic brakes
Are you sure she didn't buy the 1200?

oh i think her bike is beautiful! get her some red tires (not all red.. the ones with two red strips... classy!) and some red handlebar tape! maybe even red bottle cages... or black ones with red writing!
and of course she needs a red and white/black helmet (like the giro)!
did you get her pedals? or is she going to ride the platforms for now?
we need some pics of her actual bike!
tell her to HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Trek men's version, too--seems to work a bit better for many women than the Lemond, as the top tube is a bit shorter. The Trek men's was just as comfortable as the WSD, and had a few more sizes. The one thing she might want to consider is putting shims in the brifters to make shifting easier for smaller hands...Specialized makes the shims, and my LBS installed them for me free.
I love my bike, hope your wife will love hers!

Great choice. good bike for a beginning roadie.
And, you do realize that Lemond is made by Trek. Saying you want a Lemond rather than a Trek is like saying you would rather have a Pontiac than a Chevrolet.
Bad analogy, I know, but the best I could come up with. Different products, same company.

Ozrider: I know Trek owns Lemond. Not sure if Lemond is made by Trek or made by Lemond for Trek (different factory etc.) but it doesnt matter to me. It's till wouldn't have said Trek on the side, like so many others I see. Again, not bashing Trek by any means.
Caligurl: She has pedals with straps. Shes used to that, doesnt want any part of clips, (yet) Will try to get a pic of hers on soon.
She can post anytime she wants, but she's not really into the internet forum thing.
