Any road bicycle/motorcycle owners/riders out there?

Besides my addiction to road cycling (Cannondale Six13 Team One Dura Ace, Ibis Titanium Road/Dura Ace) I also love motorcycling.

I have a 2004 Honda ST1300A: sport touring bike, (A stands for ABS brakes on my bike):

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/20sep...04st1300lt.htm

I ride my bicycle MUCH more than my motorcycle. But I do love the ST.
And the similarities between a 16 lb. racing bike and a 700lb motorcycle are amazing...

I ride a Litespeed Sirius Roadbike and a 06 GSX-R 750. I get the same feel of satisfaction from putting in a hard fast ride on the bicycle as I do from a fast smooth run through the twisties when I can put the motorcycle exactly where I want it.

I was addicted to motorcycling way before bicycling. Between my bicycles and my motorcycle, my Jeep Grand Cherokee only gets used to transport my bike to the track and to my weekend ride meeting spots. I love riding them both. There is definitely a huge difference between throwing a bicycle into a turn and throwing a sportbike, traveling much faster, into a turn.

I ride a 2006 Kawasaki ZX6R 636.

Sad thing is I will probably put more miles on the bicycle this year... (Weekends are full from cycling and kart racing and I travel extensively for work)

I bought my 2004 Triumph Thunderbird Sport, my first motorcycle, shortly before getting my first road bike. I spend way more time on the bicycle, so I've decided to sell the motorcycle. I'll probably use the money to buy my second road bike...

I use to ride motorbikes, sadly no more... I guess not too sad otherwise I still would :)

skijor 05-18-06 10:33 PM

If I had to choose...

...the motorcycle would be gone in a second. 2004 Yamaha Road Star Silverado (1700cc of mock Harley) w/V&H Longshots yeah baby!

I love 'em both so I actually looked into getting a cycle trailer to haul camping stuff AND my Cannondale SR500. That felt weird in a betrayal-to-both kind of way.

I'm currently building a bike rack for my motorcycle so I can ride to the rides. There's a practical side to this too as my motorcycle gets 50+ mpg. If I can't ride my bicycle to the organized rides, I'll at least be on two wheels until I get there!

funny. a buddy of mine has a pic of his father, taken in the late 50s/early 60s, with his bike strapped on to his motorcycle heading off for a Road Race. :)

This I gotta see. When you have this completed please share photos of this device with us. I was just thinking about riding my bicycle to the motorcycle dealership (where my bike was in for service) - but couldn't figure out how I'd carry the bicycle home. And my ST is fully rigged with touring bags at the moment (similar to a Goldwing, top box and all, but mine can clip off) - maybe I'd need a trailer of some sort. So that may never happen. Curious to see if somebody can pull that off.

One big reason I got into motorcycles two years ago after never having owned one is that I really missed being on two wheels after back injuries forced me off my bicycle. After being back on my road bike daily for several months I actually thought about selling my ST. But a few warm weather rides cured me of that notion. I LOVE the motorcycle. Not as much as the bicycle, but the ST is a keeper. And it will be paid for in full over the next year - so I would imagine it will be in my garage for the next decade or so. 6000 miles the first year, only 1200 miles last year. Hope to get more miles in on the Honda this season. Just replaced the headlight bulbs with PIAA Xtra Whites - like 3x brighter than stock - so I'm not afraid to ride on the deer-infested dark country roads around here at night anymore. I can SEE what's up the road now. Stock m/c headlights are truly pathetic.

Next I have to get a new battery for my Nitesun bicycle headlight system so I can ride the bicycle a bit after dark up here too....

I've given up racing motorcycles and taken up racing bicycles.

GREAT photos. The amazing thing about motorcycle racing is how these guys take tumbles @ high speeds all the time - and thanks to their protective gear, often walk away uninjured. I haven't dumped my motorcycle yet. Hopefully THAT won't happen - EVER.

Those ST's are fantastic sport touring bikes. If I were to get a Sport Tourer that's probably the one. Right now I have a 2000 Suzukit TL1000R sportbike that I bought new 6 years ago (I'm good at math). I've done a lot of work to it. I take it to quite a few track days. There is actually a new track opening near me this summer, so I'm getting pretty excited to take it to a new track.

Perfect bike for me. Can't really bend my long legs (34" inseam) to fit those crotch rockets. And that's more the kind of bike I like - not a cruiser guy. The ST is sort of a jumbo rice rocket with touring capabilities and a much more comfortable seating position. Really love the ST. Most of the people that have them seem to be pretty happy. First and only motorcycle for me. It was a bit big and heavy for a new motorcyclist - I took the MSF beginner course and gradually got comfortable on the country roads around here. By the end of the first year I was riding it into Manhattan once a month. 7200 miles later I'm not dead yet. The road bike experience with cars has been invaluable as a new motorcyclist. Not as new now as I was after two years of regular riding. I try to ride daily when possible to stay sharp. Do most of my local errands on the ST....

+1

I ride a Ducati Monster 620. I also put more miles on the bicycle. And my Jetta TDI gets better gas milage. Its a great bike for recon rides of future bicycle routes and general hooliganism. I need a big BMW so i can put a bike rack on it so i can take it to races. Theres a guy here in the D20 who does it.

http://www.1618.org/coppermine/album...l_PB160019.JPG

bought a dual sport, then stopped riding street on a moto all together. Got really into MX though and here's my latest.

I have a Trek 1200 and a 2003 CBR 600rr. Interestingly I only started bicycling to get in shape for riding on the track but lately I've been more into the bicycle. Oh and as far as crashing, I've hit the ground at 135mph. Ouch. Here's a pic from April at Summit Point Ractrack in West Virginia.

Gummee 05-19-06 01:02 PM

I was a bicyclist LONG before I picked out a MC. Being the oldest son, I 'had to set a good example.' Then my younger brother bought 2 and Dad had 3, so...

I have an 04 BMW R1150RT till I can get it sold and buy a KTM 950. 100mph dirtbike bay-bee!

Its amazing how moving thru a pack of bicycles and moving thru a pack of cars is so similar...

2004 BMW R1150RS (24k miles)
2006 Gunnar Roadie (.5k miles)

I've been taking my car to work a lot more since I resumed bicycle riding because I need a way to get my bicycle to rides after work. Like a previous poster, I'm putting more miles on the bike these days than I am the motorcycle. Which is not entirely bad.

Cannondale R300, Masi Vincere, Cannondale Prophet and Harley Dyna Low Rider. As long as it has two wheels it can't be bad.

RB1-luvr 05-19-06 01:43 PM

when i raced bicycles back in the late 80s/early 90s there was a dude with a BMW motorcycle that built a bicycle rack for his motorcycle. If memory serves me correct he had built the rack to quick attach to the rack the motorcycle already had. Looking at his motorcycle from the rear, his front wheel was mounted standing up on the left, the frame standing up in the middle and the rear wheel on the right.

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 18. 16 if you count my moped. Right now I have a 2002 GSX-R600, a '96 Road King, a '58 sporty chop project under construction, an '87 YSR-50 and two pocket bikes, a Cag Lucky7 and a ZPF Eco Flyer.
