Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Heavy Dust Storm Hits Suddingly During Ride

Okay Everyone,

it was 100 degrees farenheight today with some cloud cover so it felt like the mid ninetys. I decided to suit up and go ride. I ride down the river through the parks admiring the girls in swimsuits. As I am about to pull up and head for the rest of my ride a very ugly dust storm hits and makes it rough on all bike riders and all swimmers for that matter. I have a couple who is riding come up behind me, we proceed to go down the river toward my house, they venture off about a mile to a mile and a half from my turn. This is where it gets rough I don't make the turn to my house I go down to warn other swimmers and cyclists that the weather is taking a turn for the worst. As I finish this up I head back for my turn at this point dust and debris is flying everywhere, I have to close my eyes and ride straight several times, I finally make my street and I find out that if I hold ten miles per hour or more I am fine but if I slow down the bike wants to venture off the road, I anchor my weight to the front of the bike and click to higher gears and amazingly I make it home with just irritated eyes, throat and my allergies beginning to get aggitated. I put the bike away record my mileage, and call it a night. This was the worst ride I have had in a long time.

Yeah, I've been dreaming of moving someplace where the weather is nice, but real estate is relatively cheap. I looked into the weather for someplace in New Mexico: "Dust Storms" was what weather.com said.

Hmm... I'm used to the 'Thunderstorm', the 'Partly Cloudy', etcetera, but this 'Dust Storm' thing is new to me.

Sounds like you live in the Tri-Cities? I was caught out with my ride partner, as well. Fortunately, we chose a ride route very close to home (Hills West, Country Ride). After Country Ridge, we could see dust boiling around Badger so we headed towards homeMt. I turned towards home (into the dust storm), hammering away at 10.6MPH. By the time I hit home, I was soot covered.

To boot, my brand new grill blew over in the wind.

Fun times.

It was God's way of punishing you for ogling scantily clad young maidens.

It is only ok if you are admiring, as an excellent example of God's handiwork, the finely honed gluteus maximi of passing female triathletes

Or should that be glutei maximi?

That's one hell of a deal. Why should I suffer for racingpain's behaviour? I know who to blame now.
