13 days off

Surgery (not mine), bad events, a painful knee, bad weather and business trips kept me off the bike for 13 torturous days.

Yesterday I was finally able to get back out. I decided to do a 25 mile ride, which turned out to be 30 miles. Not bad, but not great. Legs are definitely not quite back to what they were before my "vacation" but I made it through the 30 miles in a headwind and kept the speed in the 16-17mph range, though only 1000ft of ascent.

Ok, so you are thinking why are you reading this? Do you need one more tidbit of information? Well if you really want one more piece of information to take home I can do that for ya. Don't eat quiche lorraine right before heading out. At 15 miles out (return on the same path) my body decided it wasn't happy with my lunch choice. My return in the headwind was shall we say, "motivated". :)

Live and learn I guess!

Don't eat birthday cake and chili before a ride either...

Although good by themselves, the combination is brutal :o

"Motivation" can help with your top speed. :)

''motivation'' can also lead to poison ivy, if you choose the wrong leaf...

I didn't know motivation meant wiping. :D

I hate motivation. Personally I avoid any dairy products for about twelve hours before I ride.
