Bibs and Helmet
I am looking for a new road bike helmet have been using the same helmet I had when I was mountain biking and that was about 3 years ago and yes I know I should have upgraded sooner. And also I am finally switching to bib shorts from regular bike shorts. Any suggestions on a road bike helmet and bib shorts?

gonna say what you probably already know... fit, fit, fit. If it's comfortable, you're wear it. Plus, all helmets that meet required standards are good enough, it comes down to comfort and features. Ok, that said, here's some solid advice...
check out the padding in bib shorts. Yes, bibs are awesome, but really, the straps aren't nearly as important as the padding. While I prefer "no padding", just enough chamois to absorb sweat and would encourage you to go with little padding, the fact is, everyone's different. Start with any bibs that has the amount of padding you think you want/need. All other features are more black-and-white... good enough or not. |
Try a Bell Alchera. The fit system is very good,it's a current-looking design, and you can get them marked doun at Performance and other on line stores.

helmet: whatever fits and passed the safety tests (i.e. not a trek helmet :))
bibs: spoil yourself. don't buy cheap crap. keep in mind that brands like performance and PI intentionaly mislable medium's as small , and large's as medium, etc (they don't want to offend all of the vain fat asses out there). |
