Stolen bike, replace or upgrade

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Stolen bike, replace or upgrade

Some ahole stole my 2006 Lemond Alpe d'Huez over the weekend. I filed a police report etc. but have little hopes of recovery. The question becomes, do I just replace what I had or upgrade?

I liked the Alpe a ton. No issues at all. But the Chanbery is a nice upgrade for about $500 more. For that you get Bontrager race wheels, and full Ultegra components.

Is it worth the price? $1400 for the Alpe d'Huez, $1900 for the Chambery.

I also looked at the Versailles today, but was not impressed at all, so that's out.

Sorry to hear about the loss, I hate getting bikes stolen; had it happen a few times. I'd say upgrade! These are perfect situations to get something nicer.
