Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Castelli vs Descente

DESCENTE Aero Exo Bib Short or CASTELLI Ypro bib short?

I ruled out Assos and PI.

I have owned some Castelli's before but their life was cut short by an extended stay in the dryer. They were nice until the chamois fell out 6 months after I got them.

The decision is between these two, and ONLY these two.

Story - My fem was "enthusiastic" last night and I had to deny her the carnival ride due to being tender and having a nice big blood blister from wearing shoddy bibs for the last 2 weeks. She then demanded that she buy me the best bibs money can buy, and I don't have the heart to ask for some Assos F1.13's.

That's some story there....

Good luck with... uh.... fixing the 'carnival ride.'

[edit: I guess that should read 'repairing' instead of 'fixing,' unless that's what you're really trying to do...]

I have never owned Descente so I can't comment. I have a couple of pair of Castelli shorts, one bib, one traditional. The fabric is very comfy and the chamois is also quite nice. I have owned the traditional shorts for approximately 3 years now and they are still in "good" shape. The bibs aren't that old so I can't really comment as to their longeivity. The chamois seems to work quite well. I rarely get that feeling that my skin is getting "pinched" or irritated. I only say rarely because never just isn't true. Of the different brands I own, Castelli, LG, Bellweather, and Pearli I would ride my Castelli's first, and I would buy anohter pair before any of the other brands I own.

The Jan crushes the heads of the Descente-wearing CSC girly men between his iron legs.

Do you find yourself wearing the same size between PI and Descente?

I have some Microsensor 3D Pro's and was thinking about trying Descente's shorts--I got a jersey and really like it.

Try a pair of Hincapie bib shorts. Really nice. Not quite as expensive as the Assos.

Ypro3's rock. It's all I wear and our team kit is Castelli also. Having said that we are all different and your results may vary.

I recently got a pair of Descente aero exo bibs and have been very happy with them. I did a century on saturday and had no problems at all. I also want to try the Hincapie bib shorts.

I have a pair of the Castelli Y-Five bibs amongst many other brands. This is my favorite bib. The fabric is light weight and very comfortable. For reference of what I am comparing them to, I have bibs by Giordana, PI, Hincapie, Specialized, and Performance. I wish I would have bought more of the Y-Five bibs while I was buying all new cycling gear.

The chamois in my Descente bibs is better than my PI's. I still like both, mind you. Never tried the Castelli bits except some leg warmers that I wear as ARM warmers.

I told her to get the Descente.

The colour scheme matches my bike better.

I'm an OCP that hasn't come out of the closet yet.

DESCENTE Aero Exo Bib Shorts are all I wear (as far as bibs go). The material wears out before the chamois.

I didnt realize these bibs were so expensive. I bought a pair last week for not as much as I am seeing them listed for on the the web. Ive only put about 100 miles in them so far but they have been great to this point.

$170 plus shipping, but if it means not having to deal with a broken arrow, it'll be worth every penny.
