Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

R900 or Vigorelli

Love both bikes. Both ride well, but I've heard that steel is the way to go, but damn the Cannondale looks nice. Looking for your opinions. They are at two differents bike shops and both are willing to make an even swap for the stock rims for 36 spoke Mavic CXP-33's with Ultegra hubs.

Also considering a Veloce.

you couldn't find two bikes more different

the cdale is a pure race bike, with a pretty aggressive geometry

the vigorelli and veloce are steel bikes with a less agressive geometry and more of a plush ride

is this the same shop? I'm surprised they would give you such complete opposites to choose from, maybe you should discuss your riding style and what you are looking for and see what they suggest

like going to a car dealer and they try to sell you a Lincoln Continental or a Chevy Corvette

good luck

The Vigorelli is an extremely nice bike IMO, I've had the fortunate experience to test one out. I'd have to say it was easily the smoothest and lightest steel-framed production bike I've been on.

Two different shops. I rode both and they were both comfortable. Maybe I'll see if I can ride a comparably priced Synapse over the weekend.

My only reservation with the Bianchi is, that we only have/had two dealers in town, and one stopped selling them because the owner said that they had a problem with a number of frames breaking, so that's why he quit carrying Bianchi. Now I don't know if this is purely BS or not, but he planted the seed of doubt.

It's BS. Bianchi frames don't break. Bianchi's been around for over 120 years - if their frames liked to break, they'd be out of business long, long ago.

personally I would choose the cdale, just imo

cdale has lots of experience building race bikes, and gets tons of input from racers--they're made in Bedford, Pennsylvania

the Bianchi has the Bianchi branding on it, but it's essentially a taiwanese frame designed for bike enthusiasts--you won't find this in the European Peloton nor will you find domestic teams on them

I'm not saying you're a racer, or that you want a race bike, or even that that is necessarily desirable (race bike per se)--but the caad frameset has a huge base of input (comments from pros that race on them) to work from and they have been refined constantly

having said that, I'm sure the Bianchi is a much more forgiving ride--especially over long hauls (50+ miles)

good luck

I own the Vigorelli frame (Celeste/TI color scheme) 55cm. For sale.
It has served for 2 1/2 good years, plush, sweet steel.

Well, the one thing is know for sure is that I'm never going to race the bike. I only want a bike that is faster and more comfortable on longer rides than the hybrid I currently ride.

Looks like the LBS owner made the decision for me. The owner of the store where the Bianchi is, told me today that the price is now $2400. He said the base price for the Vigorelli on the Bianchi website is wrong, and now he's charging me for the wheel swap. I asked him what changed from yesterday, and he said that he made a mistake and quoted me wrong. What an a-hole.

Err I can see charging you for a wheel upgrade as long as it is negotiated...but the web site is wrong? BS

Yeah, but based on the price on their website, he wants to charge me $600 for a wheel upgrade. What a joke.

For what wheels? The Ksyrium Equipes have to be worth $200-$300 in trade value...unless you are keeping those too.

I'm not keeping them. I'm going to trade them in for 36 spoke Mavic Open Pros with Ultegra hubs.
