Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tifosi = Thumbs sideways

I read a recent post giving very good reviews to Tifosi sunglasses. Didn't contribute, but my sentiments pretty much echoed what I was reading, which is to say I was very happy with them. Until today.

After the morning commute, the sun went away and it got very dark out. "No problem," said I, I'll just switch lenses! Snap! The frame broke right at the top! Now, I know that they're glasses, so a light touch is required, but I wasn't manhandling them at all. Changable-lens sunglasses should not be that delecate! Especially those that require you bend the frame to change the lenses.

They're 2 weeks old. I have worn them a maximum of 5 times!

Fortunately, they were purchased through Nashbar, which is usually pretty good about replacing broken defective stuff.

we recently got tifosi products at the shop i work at, and i was somewhat impressed. relative light weight, strong lenses, different styles and colors. and the fototech lenses work pretty well. not as good as the spec optics, but hey, you're only paying $60ish for a pair, not $140ish+. im sticking with my oakleys, but budding cyclists might prefer the less expensive tifosi

I've been debating between the two brands myself. I own a pair of Oakley's so I certainly can vouch for them but the Rudy's caught my attention too...actually the price did.

I like the Oakley M-Frame but it's three times the price of the Rudy's. Even though, I still may go for them.

Ooops - I think the thread you were referring to was started by me. What model do you have? The Slip model had some issues. The others (I've had 3) were all excellent though. Give their customer service a try. I was very pleased with them.

I have a pair and I have been pleased. I live near the company in Georiga. I also have a pair of Oakleys, but I perfer the fit of the Tif's. Plus if i ever have a problem I can get a new pair in less than 24 hrs. For the price nothing can beat them.

My face is tiny so I got Optic Nerve - Vons Menus. They have almost no optical distortion and are even cheaper than the Tifosis, which all ended up fitting me terribly.

Hey all - I actually worked in a lab making glasses for a couple of years. I know a thing or two about glass optics, which is why I started the original tifosi thread in the first place. Color accuity and contrast on their grey lenses is top notch. Oakley, or any thing else that I've seen, doesn't beat it. It may tie it, but not beat it. Its really good. The other thing the Tifosi's do most other manufacturers of sub $100 optics don't offer is an AR (AR = anti reflective) coating. This is a big deal. It keeps reflections from your face/eyballs from being visible on the lens and affecting optical quality. Its the same thing as on a camera lens. You know, the purpleish tint you see if you look closely at the lens. This is very significant of a sub $100 optic. Fit and finish may not be as good as Oakley (although the Tifosi Pave model is hard to beat), but IMO the optics are absolutely dead on par with Oakley. Oakley's optics are impressive, so that's high praise.
