Black Bar Tape in Hot and Sunny Climes?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yes, very hot if you don't wear gloves. Choose a lighter color if you are a sucker for the heat.

Well I live in sunny Australia and I've had NO problems with black bar tape. The current standard synthetic cork wrap doesn't get hot in the sun. Now maybe if it was just thin plastic tape the story would be different but then again I don't know if lighter colour plastic tape would be any better.

Regards, Anthony

I used to have black out here in the CO sun but I didn't notice any major problems. Yeah, there were some longer rides where they started to feel a bit hot, but nothing bad.
Now I have blue to match my bike. Only problem with lighter colors is that the dirt and road grit starts to show early and now the blue doesn't look anything like it did.
