Joe Friel's Cyclist's Training Bible

I am looking at buying a copy and was thinking of just getting the cheaper 2nd edition copy rather than the newer 3rd edition. Anyone have both of these? Is it worth the extra $$ for the new edition? Thanks

I heard he goes into greater detail on nutrition in the 3rd edition, but I have the 2nd and it already has enough info to make a Cat 3 out of anybody. For $10? Hells yes.

You can get the newest edition on Amazon for less than $15....well worth every penny. I'm sure the second edition would be fine but I've never looked at it. Considering how much money cyclists spend on gear, nutrition and clothing, the extra few dollars shouldn't be cause for any hesitation. Step up, start training.

Does this book address training and weight loss issues for "club" riders, or is it more of a hard core training manual for already fit and serious riders?

BeeTL,
I'd have to say that this book is not for you. If it mentions anything about weight loss, it isn't important enough to make the index. It may mention it in the Nutrition section but I can't remember coming across it.

As far as the training goes, all of it is geared towards races, and more specifically, your A race(s). It starts off with commitment and motivation behind your cycling, moving to the science and how to measure your training. Then it talks about racing goals and training to meet those goals. The next huge hunk of the book is designed to help you create a riding plan (yearly and weekly) as well as mentions of streches, weight training, fuel, etc.
The most important lesson is knowing not to Overtrain or Burnout. Perhaps the most useful advice for a club rider.
