New Addition to My Stable

4 Attachment(s)
This is my new steed... While not too popular amongst people on this board and others, with exception to their respective owners, it was a deal I could not pass up! I'm extremely happy with the purchase. Bought her as you see it for $700 USD! Not bad, considering the componentry...I also got the never installed WCS ritchey stem that was sealed in plastic, at least before I took it out for the picture in the "For Trade" thread, and the original Saddle that is now on Ebay, also new.

I took her out yesterday for about 5 miles and it seems a bit racier than my 05 Allez Comp in riding position, so I'm looking to swap out the stem to raise the bars a bit. I want the same stem that is on my Allez, simply because of the infinite adjustability. I'm also looking for a stronger wheelset as well, but hey! I can't complain!

Fizik Arione saddle
Velo VCRC Carbon Fiber Stem
Vuelta XRP Carbon Team bars
Ultegra 10 speed
FSA SLK Compact Carbon crank 50/36
Sweet American Classic CR 420 Wheelset
WCS Ritchey Seatpost
Carbon fork
(2) Forte Carbon bottle cages
Catseye Astale 8 Computer

damn......great deal with the ultegra.....and the wheels.....damn again. its a steal!

dekalbSTEEL 05-29-06 02:46 PM

Don't be so quick to judge those wheels.... I've heard some really good things here on BF about them.
That 4-way Specialized stem is nice, isn't it?

screw what anyone else thinks, that looks like a pretty sweet ride to me.

Just remember, everyone with a Moto is a shill :D

incipit 05-29-06 03:43 PM

Just back from 22miles on her...wheels are straight and true with me weighing in at 283lbs taken just before my ride... maybe I will keep em after all... Wow I'm light headed, I'm still raining sweat and my eyes are stinging.

Given my weight and fitness level(or lack there of) and head wind the whole ride home I'm proud of the ride... 22miles Average speed was 15.9 mph, max 29mph, ET 1:23 min.

My third ride this season 1st was about 12 miles second was 5miles yesterday on the MOTO

I think I like the Arione saddle...

My toes went numb(save for my big toes) for the last 4miles what do you think would cause that?

copper RS 05-29-06 04:06 PM

you might want to lower those hoods if you ever plan on riding in the drops. lol

merlinextraligh 05-29-06 05:03 PM

ok, what's the over/under on when alanbikehouston posts. I'm taking post no. 13.

fmw 05-29-06 05:11 PM

He may not show up since the word Motobecane isn't in the title. Looks like a great ride, Incipit.

Actually, I bought it lightly used not far from my house... Chick said she bought it Earlier this year for her now EX boyfriend who only rode it a couple times due to cold weather... she kept it after the breakup.

Dude I'm 5'10" 280 lbs... I can't reach the freakin' drops...LOL Seriously, I can but it sucks! I can still operate the brakes and shifters there so I'm not about to unwrap them.

Shoe issues?

DLH 06-01-06 09:19 AM

I'll add you to the Motobecane Owners list. Not sure if you have seen it, but it is a favorite thread of ABH.

Nice bike and an excellent deal!

toshi 06-01-06 10:04 AM

Can you comment on the bottom bracket stiffness, and overall frame stiffness on your moto?

Also, in this photo you can see an "E" in a diamond, stamped on the frame just above the dropout. Does this mean it's an easton-aluminum frame? I was always curious about that stamp...

She looks great btw!

incipit I don't know how I missed this thread up till now. That was a great deal on the bike. I bought the same bike for my daughter. I too am over 200 lbs, I started riding at the end of March an I was 285, I am now 260 and ride a Moto Immortal Force if it's not raining, otherwise a Titanium TST. I am up to about 17.1 mph average over our during the week 12 mile loop. Your weight will come down and the speed will increase in no time. just stick to it!:)

The toes thing, do you feel yourself curling your does during hard pedalling efforts. If so it may be an indication that the cleats are too far forward. You need to make sure that the ball of your foot is directly over the pedal spindle, not the middle of the pedal platform. Use that as a starting place.

badkarma 06-01-06 10:08 AM

Great deal on that rig. I have the AC350s on my bike, and I'm so drooling over the 420s.

toshi, the frame is made by Kinesis in Taiwan, I don't think they have any frames that use Easton tubing. I have their CF frame and cannot flex the frame enough to make the chain rub or skip. My daughter has this same bike but she is too small to make it flex any at only 135 lbs.

incipit 06-01-06 06:50 PM

Honestly, I haven't noticed any flex... It's funny, perhaps it's because it's new to me, but I've been grabbing it down off the wall instead of my 05' Allez comp, when it comes down to riding time. I LOVE the new Ultegra 10 with Compact crank! Also, I noticed my bum doesn't feel nearly as bruised as it does after a long time on the Allez... Maybe A Fizik Arione will be on order to replace the Alias 143 that I have on the Allez. It may be posture though... the Moto's bars are about 1-2 inches lower than the Specialized.

I've been scouring Ebay for a nice Carbon, titanium or Carbon/Alunimum Frame... I want full carbon or Ti really... Itching to build up a nice ride, But I have to say... so far, I'm loving the Moto, believe it or not.

Funny, I spent more than twice that on my specialized. Who knows though, getting back on the Allez might make me see the Moto's shortcomings, that as of right now I have yet to notice any.

mecheng 06-01-06 07:12 PM

damn, what a steal for $700!

blandin 06-01-06 07:31 PM

You scored an amazing deal and it sounds like you're already getting your money's worth and will no doubt get healthier in the bargain. BTW, I have CR420's and I weigh in at 220 lbs and have had no issues with them.

uga8589 06-01-06 08:44 PM

What a steal on the bike! She's beautiful.
