Shimano front quick release recall...
I did a quick search and didn't find that this had been posted.
http://bike.shimano.com/publish/cont...k_release.html The potential for catastrophic failure makes this frightening. Check your skewers if: a) They're Shimano; b) They're silver; c) Made after Nov. 1, 2005. The link walks you through the identification process. Applies to Road, MTB and Sport QRs. |
edit: nevermind. Mine are m752 anyway

I ride 550's. Is the set mentioned as 5501 the same thing? I just looked at the Shimano site and I am not sure.
|
Nevermind I am sure I have a black skewer.

Doh! Looks like mine might be included. Got a set of wheels with 105 hubs. HB-5501a is marked on them.
I'm not sure that's included (site just says HB-5501) but I'd rather be on the safe side. Silver skewer, wheel purchased a month ago, no stickers on the QR levers. The recall notice isn't very specific (is 5501a covered, or not?), nor does it give the date that the recall notice was posted. -Greg |
Crap. New wheels arrived today and the skewer's already recalled!
|
I just bought Ultegra / Mavic Open Pro's on Saturday from Performance, and the hubs are HB-6600's with the silver skewer. I rode 50 miles on them the first day so all I can say is, I'm glad the skewer didn't break.

I just purchased a 105 front hub from Cambria last week. I called Shimano because the QR meets all the requirements. The guy at Shimano said I should go to my LBS for final verification. I asked if the LBS would do the exchange, even if I bough it online, and he said it'd be up for them.
I'm going to call Cambria also to see what they say but I'll take it to the LBS just so they can verify that this is, indeed, a bum skewer. |
