Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

white knuckled fun

I was going down a bridge yesterday and hit 42mph with a turn at the bottom onto another street. I normally only go about 30 on this hill but I really hammered down it this time. As i go into the turn I feather the brakes to make the turn. I thought to myself "say fool, you're going to way to damn fast to make this turn" So I really started pulling on the brake levers and they just weren't cutting it. I was holding on to the brakes just about as hard as I could and it scared the crap out of me (the good kind of scare ) as I made this turn. I think I actually heard my tires squeal a little bit. LOL

At any rate it was pretty darn fun after the fact . However, I'm going to the LBS to get some better brake pads than what came on my Allez.

Some better pads are definitely in order. Nothing scarier than telling your bike to stop and having it not listen.

I've recently found two hills that I like to do repeats on. I routinely hit up to 52mph on them... my goal is to pass at least one car each time out. So far I've managed to do just that; the looks on drivers faces when I pass them is usually pretty amusing.
