Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clydsdale needs new shoes

I'm putting 125-150 mi/week on my bike.

I'm a big guy who doesn't care about the weight of his bike (don't get me wrong, I'd love a 16 pounder but I'd break it. I'm barely looking back at 300#.)

Almost all of my riding is in NYC.

I'm figuring 700x25 (or 700x28).

Anyone have suggestions for brands with really good wear?

My last set of Continentals are pretty beat up on just 1,000 miles.

I have been a happy user of the ultragatorskin as well....at 195# or so I get the back 700Cx23 considerably squared off in 1600mi or so....replace at 1800mi and still ok, just square. Upping to 25 wide on the back looks like it will really increase the mileage...not sure how much yet.

the heavier you are the faster you're going to wear tires. I get about 2000 miles on Continentals if I'm relatively careful.

What I think you might like to try is the Avocet Fastgrip K wirebead Duro 700 x 28C. They're good for 95 lbs and perhaps you won't be able to ride it at that pressure. If so look at the 32 mm tires from the same source.

Harris Cyclery generally has these tires in stock I believe. https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/tires/622.html#32

Just wondering, "Any idea why the bigger tires have lower psi ratings?"

Armadillos. I'm 220 and ride 99% in NYC. I get about 3000 miles on a set.
