My bad.
That's funny though.
All this time based upon this thread I thought that a 30 mph pace line was only attainable by an 'elitist' cyclist?
Multiple people in this thread have informed us all about the dedication needed by the OP and his jersey grabbing buddies and it turns out amateur athletes from other sports who aren't even concentrating first on cycling can hang with these Detroit super heroes.
Interesting...

I wonder if people who pass and tuck in front of some of those who ride alone get yelled at?

Blast from the Past
I think bakes is winning me over. I'm reforming. Next fast ride I'm gonna hook a few people, over react to everything, slam on my brakes for no apparent reason, weave all over the road, gap everybody at the back. And if anybody gets pissed I'm gonna punch them in the face. Then I'll be able to rest a little easier knowing I'm not elitist or a dick.

I don't know if I would generalize about triathletes. The ones that I've encountered have had no interest in group rides.
OK, so do your own thing. Bashing other people's choices isn't doing any good. "Posers. Stupid spandex. Dreck logos." Attacking Roadies in a thread that's unrelated to solo rides seems unnecessary.
Nope - no loss. I ride to clear my head, among other things. Don't need posers or attitudes, or stupid spandex plastered with some dreck corporate logos. There's too much advertising in this world already. You want to pass - be my guest. Just don't then tuck in, right in front of me. You're going to pass? Then pass and keep going. I won't get in your way - don't get in mine.

Most fast Tri's I've ridden with are cool dudes and smooth, good wheels in general.

So are we mainly blaming tri's here or not?
Seems so since when I wondered about who could be an accomplished enough rider to hop in a 30 mph pace line yet not have learned biking etiquette those in the uhh know said tri's.
But the person most complaining about these people, the OP, also
stated that his riding mates also grab these people by the jersey.
That is where the real bs starts imo.
His spandex clad fellow road cyclists are grabbing Tri athletes and pushing them around?
Too funny.

I used to do tris. I could spool out the watts but couldn't ride my bike out of a wet paper bag. I left gaps, half-wheeled, surged off the front of the rotation, braked in the corners, and was just generally a squirrel. Got yelled at. I deserved it.

You're the one who seems to have anger management issues since your solution to riders who you perceive to not be up to your standards is, in your words, to yell and be a dick towards them. I wouldn't come at you unless you screamed and were a dick towards me which I have a feeling would never happen heh

78 pages of yelling is more than enough. I thought this thread had died years ago.

You're new around here, aren't you? Read this entire thread, then come back and we can talk.
Meanwhile, I'll be over at the kiddie's table sucking on my juice box.

Back on topic, we don't have many triathletes showing up on any of our group rides. There's one guy who appears on the Tuesday Derby ride on aero bars, and he handles a pace line and pack riding well. Would like to see him get on the velodrome.
Not sure where the anti-tri thing started.

I probably started it. The question, if there was one, was how could someone turn up at a race ride with ability to hang at 27-30mph without knowing how to ride in a group. Riders coming to road cycling from triathlon can, and I was one. Sorry for the derailment.

He averages 25mph solo on a 50 mile course.
He rides group rides for fun, not to train.

I do....First, I want to slowly unscrew your quick release. Then I want to grab ahold of your lube tube and gently squeeze it until your chain is dripping wet and splashes onto your spoke nipples and rim as I spin your crank, creating enough chain tension to make your carbon fiber post aspode in ecstasy.
