Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Surely the most consistently entertaining and irrelevant poster I've seen.

Man, cross referencing this really was mean. Now we'll all go lurk around the commuter forum, and screw up their threads.

They are just dumbasses, like that dumbass MTB commuter doing the "Fast and Furious" stuff. I am just waiting my thread to go 7 pages long without me having to read any one of them. They are worthless carp...... BTW, if any of these dumbasses think they have the balls, come to Prospect Park on 6AM this Saturday. Why? There is the NY Empire State Qaulifying races. Race format is simple. All fields racing the same distance. 77 miles. 22 laps in the park. The first top 10 will represent NYC in the NY Empire State Olympic game. All fields (Pro 1/2/3/4/5). If you have a MTB, sure, use it to race and maybe you can try to pull one of these tricks the MTB commuter was doing. And blame your result because you were racing with a MTB commuter weighting 30lb. Yeah, Slovid???

I see you are posting this here instead of the commuter forum...why not post it there?

Are you afraid someone from that forum will read it and take you up on the challenge?

R600, just start posting under some other userid, stop popping off your powertap output, and maybe you'll gain an ounce of credibility.

I took care of it for him.

Loved this one:

I was cruising along on my MTB on my commute last night on the West Side Bike Path, enjoying the day, when this roadie flew by me. I could hear him grunting and straining behind me right before he passed, and he almost knocked me off the path. He was wearing a full lycra team kit, and, get this...a back pack !!! Who wears a back pack while riding a road bike and wearing lycra??? It was a really nice bike (I think it said R300 on the top tube), although it had this weird yellow thing sticking out of the rear hub...what's up with that? I have never seen one of those before.

So I thought I would mess with his ego a little bit. I shifted into my 42 big ring and the 14 in the back, and started cranking. I must have been going like 20 MPH or something when I caught him...I was FLYING!!! The wind even started to kick up a little bit...there must have been like 30 MPH gusts or something!!! I could tell he was surprised that I caught him, so I eased up a little bit to give him a chance to catch up. I let him pass me again (he was still straining pretty hard), and then I cranked it up again. I was probably pushing about 440 watts to the pedals (just a guess, I don't have a way to measure this), and I flew by him again. He was getting aggravated, so I eased up again. I continued messing with him a few more times.

I eventually had to give up the game. I let him pass me one more time, and to make him feel good about himself, I didn't give chase. I kept pace with him from behind for a few more blocks, and then I let him go.

I would have dropped him, but I had passed my turnoff about a mile back, and I didn't want to get too far down the path, as I had a date with my wife at the local mexican joint. Come to think of it, every time this guy passed me, I caught a faint whiff of cheap beer and burritos...he must like mexican food, too!!! See, roadies, we do have some things in common!

This tool looked like he was worn out the last time I let him pass me...I hope he isn't too sore and tired to work this morning! Maybe he is off today, and can recover!

I originally posted this on R600's commuter thread, but I'll repost here:

I think we should chip in and fly Euro over here to race R600 down the MUP.

Hell yeah, I'm up for that, but we also need a 10 year old girl on a barbie bike with streamers in that race to provide them some challenge.

Hey guys, 7 time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong here.

Mind if I boast? No? Great.
I'm the greatest bike racer that has ever lived.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, I have to defend my homie R600. You all complain about R600's ego, but the fact is his power is truly awe inspiring. Why, his 440W for 30 seconds and his 290W for 5 minutes would be more than enough to hang with the pros on any day. If you don't believe in R600, you don't believe in miracles.

Nah, I'm just kidding. Ha ha! He has an ego but nothing to back it up. Say, you know what that reminds me of? The time I came back from life threatening cancer to drop the pro peloton in the Tour de France 7 times in a row. Can't believe they thought they could beat me.

Hey, didn't R600DA come up on you and drop you about 8 or 9 months ago in Prospect Park? Don't you remember THE LOOK???

Sounds like you are just jealous of our hero, R600DA. Go back to your dreams of auto racing now.
