Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Stable

I couldn't ride with the thunderstorm warning in the area so I decide to snap some pictures while the light was still good.

So here we are...

The Beater - This was my first road bike in over twenty years. I bought it from my boss for fifty bucks. It needed everything; new handbar, stem, seat, seatpost, brakes, tires, it was a mess. It was fun cutting my teeth on this first bike project. It now serves as my rain ride.

The Hulk - I call it that because you need the Hulk's quads to go uphill on this fixed gear beast. I just got this ride last week. I've only had a little over an hour to get to know it, but I do like it.

The Cross - I didn't want a mountain bike after I heard the call of the road. So I traded it in on this ride. Riding in the winter and on the bike path is fun with this one. Well equiped and handles the trails well. I even did an off-road metric century with it riding from my home to the Philadelphia Art Museum and back.

And now my Fav...
I give you Machin Shin (The Black Wind) - What started life as a R1000 had changed alot. It's my main ride. I love the way it climbs and rockets the down hills. I've changed out alot of the stock parts with upgrades to suit my riding style. Simply put, this one is my baby.

Hope the rain stops soon (it just started). I'm ready for another ride.
Enjoy. See you on the road, track, path...

Yes, they are 27s. With Suntour components and Shimano Biopace rings to boot!

Yep. A BioPace triple. I don't know the sizes but the granny gear looks smaller than 30 teeth. Very tiny. I'll count it up after work today.

Yeah nice beater setup. I've been trying to find a beater like that in the Bay Area for MONTHS. Craigslist is scoured clean quicker'n, well, I dunno, but pretty damn quick. That's the one downside to life in the Bay - nice stuff online gets snapped up asap!
