Clipless Pedal Drama

So I go out on a nice easy 10 mile ride after work today and as I am rolling back up to the house I pop one foot out in order to come to a nice clean stop. While doing so I notice a few nieghbors out walking their dogs and getting out of cars after work(its about 5pm). So I plan to look real cool having just finished a few miles before dinner feeling like a fitness guru and looking the part in my bike gear when I forget that only one foot is unhooked, I had been looking at one of neighbors a little too close ;) .... and I went right over on the pavement. Crash! Now, feeling sorta sheepish I get up and take the walk of shame to the door. I bet I will remember next time.:D

Another trick is to learn how to trackstand. You'll never have a clipout accident again (just fall over ones) hehe.

You probably got the neighbor's attention better this way ;)

Yes! Trackstanding will open up a whole 'nother pandora's box of ways to flop over in front of your friends! I've had a few doozies. Most recently I was beginning my commute home from work when I saw a co-worker on the sidewalk, and he saw me as I approached a red light. I came to a stop, trackstanding, and we started chatting. We got absorbed in conversation and I just totally forgot where I was and what I was doing. Flop! D'oh!

I have yet to get up the nerve not to unclip and try the trackstand route. Maybe when no ones looking...

Yeah...I had one of those before....mine was I was eyeing this good looking honey jogging around the college...pink sport bra and shorts on....well i was eyeing her and not where I was going...all of a sudden my bike starts flipping and I yell out an expletive right before going head-first into the top of the bush i just hit.

...so there I was, practically upside down in this bush, bike still clipped to my feet....and I was unable to move at all.

...and of all people she had to be the one to help pull me out...my god was I embarassed....and too flubber jawed to try to ask her if she wanted to go grab a coffee or something :(

All i have to say...at least she was doing this early in the morning...running downtown in the afternoon in that outfit would have caused a 15 car pile up...

...oh and this story is a good rason to not ride on the sidewalk :p

Definitely been there. No matter what, I always seem to do it when someone is around to watch. I could ride 20+ miles without seeing another soul, but as soon as I'm around people, I botch the unclipping part... This is fine though, as I have little ego problems and brush it off fairly easily.

Of course, I also did this recently infront of 3 other bikeforums members I had just met... That was a tad bit more embarassing, as I spent a good portion of the day trying NOT to do anything that would make a poor first impression :)
