holy cow, the same thing happened to my friend who got a used cervelo off ebay. Last I heard they will honor the warranty if you are original owner! Good luck and I hope you have a nice backup bike to ride.

Jakey 06-06-06 03:30 PM

Good luck with that. The one thing I can say about Trek...they are awesome on their warranty. I know a guy who was the second owner of an oclv frame that cracked...they replaced it basically no questions asked, with a more current model.

Yes I am the original owner and I have a nice back up...so, so far so good:)

Personally I like how it's on the non-drive side...good luck! Let us know how it pans out!

For my knowledge....what would the Significance of which side it is on be?

Honestly none, but odds are you're going to encounter someone in the warranty issue food chain who will not know any better and find that odd and accuse you of doing something "unusual" to cause the failure.

If that happens it will make for a good post.

I'm beginning to wonder what % of the R2.5s have failed.
There are some new 2.5s on Ebay recently- these do NOT have a warranty, even though they are new.

I have said it before. Cervelo makes a fine product but I think maybe they rushed the R2.5 a bit. They need to step up to the table and fix or repair these frames no matter if they are ebay purchased or LBS purchased. It is not fair for anyone to be left holding the bag because of poor workmanship or materials.

shabbasuraj 06-06-06 11:11 PM

that looks serious

DocRay 06-07-06 08:32 AM

there have been a few of these failures seen on weightweenies. Cervelo is now providing new R3 frames as replacement.

djbowen1 06-07-06 12:55 PM

Gerard Vroomen posts on weight weenies, post it up on there. I have spoken with him numerous times.

So far so good. The dealer called me and said the R-3 replacement frame is about a month out but not to worry. He also gave me the option of upgrading to a Carbon Soloist for $600.00 more. Can't ask for more than that. Ill let you all know when it shows.

Dude! Cervelo gave me my Soloist Carbon for a $300 upgrade! You might want to check and see if you can get a better deal... Here's my tale of warranty fun: http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=202829

Does not realy matter as I told them to just do the R3 anyway. I wonder if Cervelo bumped the price or my LBS was looking to make a buck

hiromian 06-16-06 12:35 AM

I had a Norco once. Bad bottom bracket. they replaced it no questions.

At a mail order/on-line store (that I have been using for >15 years) regular selling price for the CF Soloist is $400 more than the R3 so you may be able to do some bargaining. It seems as if you were offered the chance of paying an additional $200-$300 for 'your' misfortune.

Myself I have to re-think buying a CF Cervelo as their warranty along with other CF manufacturer warranty that I have seen, stink. The resale value drops drastically as the warranties are not easy to 'transfer' or are non-transferable.

All these issues I have been seeing and reading about has really put me off of Cevelos. It certainly has stopped me from looking at any used ones. The R 2.5s seem to be time bombs....

Still, good to hear they are taking care of Original buyers.

This only effects one model of Cervelo, not made any more.

I would not buy a used R2.5. I would also not buy a new R2.5 on eBay-they do not have any warranty, and I've seen guys paying $1500-1800...nuts.

But, the BB failure can be fixed good as new by CF specialty shops like Calfee.

.

I am still glad of having an "option" Would I buy another Cervelo product after this experiance? In a heartbeat. So far they have stepped up and doing everything promised in the warranty. With that said. I am digging my Litespeed backup bike.

+1 to that. While I'm really hoping I never have to use the warranty on the new frame, they did everything correctly. They could have just as easily said, "Buddy, you're going to have to wait for the R3 to show up. Someday."

garysol1 07-14-06 04:10 PM

And here is Cervelo's answer..................
