Anyone here joining me this Saturday?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'd have to spend about $500 in airfare, rent a car, swing by a bike shop, rent (or buy) a bike, then drive over to your house. So...... no.

The Cherohala Challenge is still 5-6 hour drive from my house.

Do you stay the night before or leave home in the middle of the night?

I'll be fishing, thank-you.

Which reminds me: I need more bourbon at the lake place.

We go the night before. Last year we left right after the ride to head home. This year we got a cabin before and after so we could enjoy the after-glow.

Yes, I guess that's about right. The first 10 or so is less, then the next 15 is more, with extended sections of greater than 9%. Total gain for the ride is over 9000 feet. The neat part is that there are some nice climbs ON THE WAY DOWN!

Absolutely beautiful scenery. The Cherohala runs for over 50 miles over the mountains from TN to NC. Just trees and mountains.
