Need new fitter in OC area

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Need new fitter in OC area

After over three months of riding/measuring, I'm still having issues with one of my knees. May not actually be a 'knee' issue, but it's sore around that area. Basically on the larger tendon that runs through hamstring area and inside/back of knee. And sometimes down into my calf. Not huge pain for the most part, just reeeealy annoying and keeping me from enjoying riding and my new bike.

Pain comes and goes. SOme rides I get back and things feel a little inflamed, but not sore. Other rides (like today), it hurts a bit more. Same route, same pace (moderate to pushing a bit). If I stay off bike for 2-3 days, it feels normal.

I've had some actual knee issues in the past, but nothing I couldn't kick or fix with surgery. My ortho doesn't think it's my knee, more my hamstring. Current fitter/coach is thinking along the same lines. I love her and she knows her stuff, but I'm looking for a fresh look at this. It's driving me friggin' nuts. I've tried all kinds of stretches, etc. to no avail.

Aaaaaaanyway - does anyone know of a good fitter (with strong physio - or whatever) background? I work in Irvine and live in RSM, so hopefully someone close to either of those.

And while we're at it, how about an ortho with a cycling background?

Any help will be appreciated.

You're right near me. I live in Mission and also work in Irvine.

Anyway, I was fitted by Robert at Santiago Cycling a couple months ago. I was having knee pain as well so decided it was finally time to be fitted. He adjusted the bike and pointed out a few things I could do to improve my technique. My knee pain is gone, so I'm happy.

Try Jim at www.sandcanyoncyclery.com. New shop. Jim's a great guy. There's a blurb on his fit technique on his website

I remember good things about Santiago from years ago and I can walk over to Sand Canyon Cyclery. Two great choices.

Thanks to you both.

Have you had your cleats adjusted as part of the fitting? I had knee pain until in one knee until I had the cleats adjusted.

Right now I think Jim at Sand Canyon is offering the best bike fittings. I've had several with R Kahler and well, just feel he's trying to push products off on me. Not saying he isn't good, just has another agenda.

I don't have any first hand experience with Eileen, but she fits a lot of the guys I race and train with. I've heard very positive things about here. One other option is Darren at Revo Cycles in Dana Point, he did an excellent job with me.

that was probably me

That's who I'm seeing now. She's great and very technical, but right now I'm looking for a fresh look at this.

thanks!

I walked over and talked to Jim. Have a fitting with him tomorrow.

One thing he mentioned right off the bat was tendonitis. Hmmmm.... When I got back to work I looked up some stuff on it. Yikes. That may be what I'm dealing with. And that sucks, as Jim mentioned 4-6 weeks of mellow riding/spinning to correct.

Maybe I'll post another thread that relates to that.

After the fitting tomorrow, I'll see a sports doc and then a therapist to get me on a recovery program.

Thanks all for the suggestions
