Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Apparently not, which is why the price has dropped so much.

True!
I've got a couple of the painted silver ones on my Trek, there's a clearcoat over the paint that cracked terribly in the spots on the bottle holder that have bends on them. Looks like crap, luckily they were like $6ea.

It claims to be silver plated, a far cry from a silver-colored paint, hence the high price. Still, pretty goofy, IMO!

I think I'll just wait for the Gold or Platinum plated versions to come out...

Probably the most hideous waterbottle cage I've seen.

Lame. It wouldn't even match my 7-lb gold chain with the 12" Mercedes emblem I wear when I ride.

But as far as whether people would pay $95 for a cage... I've seen a couple folks sporting the Campy carbon cages that sell for $109...

You're too late. The gold ones went on sale about 3 months ago. I almost considered it.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ This is not a joke.

At least with the gold one you could see the difference between it and polished aluminum... Of course, I guess you could spot the silver plated one when it tarnishes. (I assume they would use sterling silver)

And that one would totally match my gold chain with the mercedes emblem.

Anyone know where I can get a velvet jersey with a fur collar to go with it?

With silver, I could see how it may go well with a modern steel frame with lots of chrome. That said, Record cages are like $100 too, so I can see someone paying that much for something a little differant. However, if it is really silver plated, how often would you have to polish to prevent tarnishing? That may be a maintenance/polishing nightmare.

The price is one thing. Look at the weight of that boat anchor.

If it was a 30g bottle cage $1.55/gram would be quite ok
