Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think it's a great idea for you. Not so much for me.

Sounds good. On my transcontinental tours I did anywhere from a low of 80 to a high of 135 per day. You can do it.

My ass hurts just thinking about it. I've done back-to-back centuries; I can't imagine doing a third. More power to you.

If it were me, I think I'd rather cover the whole 2500 miles in as short a time as possible (i.e. ride approx. 18 hours a day), or cover shorter distances each day and take longer doing it .... rather than having to get up morning after morning after morning after morning ...... to ride another century again.

But, one of my cycling partners would be right there with you with the way you're planning to do it.

It all depends on your preferred way to cover the distance!

i want to space it out somewhat.

i move into my new townhouse in Aug. and im startin the ride July 1st. The motivation for going is coupled with the fact that i dont want to see/hear/interact with any of my family. they are too much to handle.

im going solo, so the motivation will be there at least a few days to ride hella-miles like maybe touching 200, i just dont wanna hurt myself.

^nope, no job because i decided i would go on a bike trip this summer rather than get an internship or whatnot. i think this will look better on a resume anyway.

and 20mph is not going to be friendly on the doetis. ill keep my speed around 15, or so.

maybe ill see you out, ill be in columbus on day #2.

This might be beside the point but...it's the exact OPPOSITE of what buddhist monks would think is the proper/good thing to do. You will be overstressing your body. They are all about putting as little stress on the body as possible. Think of it like this: you will be a candle burning very brightly, so you'll burn out quickly. Not a buddhist way of doing things. The buddhists (and Taoists) believe you should walk like a pigeon, sit like a turtle and sleep like a dog. You'll be walking like an elephant, sitting like an ADD kid and sleeping like you've got restless leg syndrome.

is that so?

and the 24/25 day thing is just a general guage of how many days it will take. i could do 100 miles for 24 days, or go a less or more. theres no set actaul time i will finish. it could be slower or faster

Actually you'd be surprised how favorably companies look at people who take extended bicycle tours. I quit my job 2 years ago, and did 3 months cycletouring in Australia. It almost always comes up in my interviews, because I've got this little gap between employment ... and the comments are very positive. And yes, I'm currently employed.

See, extended touring shows that you've got transferable skills such as planning and organization and determination etc. Companies like that stuff ... almost as much as they like the pieces of paper that tell them you are qualified to do things. And if you travel to other countries for your cycletours, you also acquire a "global awareness" which is something most companies these days are coming to require of their employees.

Also BigNoseWhipper is only going to be on his tour for 3.5 weeks ... in the grand scheme of things, a gap in employment that small wouldn't even be noticed.
