Help with an old Cannondale, please!
Although I own and ride a Trek, I am not much of a cycling expert. So, I need some help figuring out the details on an old Cannondale. It was donated for a fundraiser I am organizing for the Breast Cancer 3Day walk and I need to be able to advertise and price it appropriately. Does anyone know how to find out the model? It says 3.0 series on the frame and I found the serial # so I know it's 64 cm and built Jan '89. It's in excellent condition, including the brakes, though I ride a mountain bike so I don't know how much tread should be on these tires.
So, if you can shed light on 1) model 2) tire tread or 3) suitable current price or original price
I would greatly appreciate it!

I have a 1988 Cannondale Criterium (pictured below). I don't think it has a "3.0" on it anywhere though. Pictured below is what it looks like (The "Cannondale" label is on the top tube and covered with electrical tape). Is your bike similar to this? Posting a photo would probably get you more (and better) replies.
Good luck with the auction though!

I asked the same question here on the Forum and got several replies and emails---all of them wrong. Old Cannondale serial numbers seem to have no rhyme or reason. I emailed Cannondale Customer Services and they were very helpful. They will need the serial number, component group, and color. Get the whole serial number, it runs the entire width of the bottom bracket and may be hidden under the cable guides. If you email me some pix I may be able to narrow it down for you. You may want to check out ebay, Ive seen some crazy prices for old Cannondales. Good Luck.

You already know the model - it's a 3.0. If the seat stays meet the chain stays at the extreme rear of the bike then it's the criterium model, if they meet about 50mm further forward (causing the rear of the chain stays to hang out past the junction) then it's the standard road model. Post the top tube centre to centre measurement on your auction - that's the measurement most people will want to know.
I had a Black Lightning 3.0 and it was a great frame. My brother bought it off me and it's still going strong today. Not bad for a Aluminium bike made in 1988, they were tough bikes.
